A Look Back at Trey Songz Arrest Record
Trey Songz has had a wild month in New York City, but he won’t be filled with holiday cheer any longer. The music artist has been arrested for two separate incidents that occurred in New York City less than two weeks apart. According to the criminal complaints, the “Bottoms Up” singer attacked a security guard at a nightclub earlier this month and recently trashed DJ equipment at a lounge. This is hardly the first time Songz has been in trouble with the law after a meltdown. He has an arrest record stretching back a decade. Let’s take a look back at Songz’s other run-ins with the law.
Trey Songz was arrested in 2016 for assaulting a police officer
Trey Songz’s first major criminal offense took place in 2016 and drew national attention. During a concert in Detroit, Songz lost his temper when the venue staff cut his microphone. The R&B artist was still performing when the venue’s curfew passed, which led to the staff’s decision to cut his mic. He didn’t take kindly to the decision. According to several sources, Songz assaulted a photographer and threw equipment in an angry outburst. Things got worse when Detroit police tried to calm the situation down. Songz lashed out and assaulted an officer. He was arrested on various charges.
In August 2017, Songz opted to take a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of disturbing the peace. According to Fox 2 Detroit, he received 18 months of probation, was ordered to undergo anger management, and complete substance abuse screenings.
He found himself in trouble again in 2018
Trey Songz didn’t stay out of trouble for too long. In 2018, he was arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of domestic violence. According to initial reports, Songz was arrested after a woman came forward to say the singer choked her, called her names, and repeatedly punched her in the face while they were attending a party together. The alleged victim claimed Songz grew irate when he found her speaking to one of his friends. She later filed a lawsuit against the singer.
Songz was taken into custody but released the following day on $50,000 bail. He was cooperative with the police. He insisted that he had done nothing wrong and that the alleged victim was lying for personal gain. She eventually dropped he charges and withdrew her lawsuit. No criminal charges were pursued by the District Attorney.
He assaulted a police officer in 2021, too
In January 2021, he ran into legal trouble in Kansas City after an incident at a Chiefs game. According to TMZ, Songz was arrested after he assaulted an officer during a scuffle at Arrowhead Stadium. The incident began when Songz refused to follow the safety protocols in place at the time. Namely, he refused to wear a face mask during the COVID-19 pandemic. When security was unable to get him to comply or leave the stadium, the Kansas City Police took over. Songs again refused to comply or leave, and that’s when things turned violent.
In a video of the incident, Songz is seen hitting the officer and attempting to get him in a headlock before backup arrives and hauls him out of the area. Songz later claimed the officer approached him aggressively and that he had acted in self-defense.
His most recent arrest is a developing case. According to the New York Post, the singer was granted supervised release after a December 14 court appearance. He is due back in court in February.
