Miami Heat star Terry Rozier is in serious trouble. The point guard has been arrested in an FBI sting focused on sports gambling. While the latest round of trouble for Rozier is by far his most scandalous, he also made headlines last year. A pornstar joked publicly that the Heat would win a game because she had slept with Terry Rozier hours earlier.
Terry Rozier arrested in FBI gambling sting
Terry Rozier was arrested by FBI agents in Orlando in connection with an illegal sports-betting scheme on October 23, just a day after the NBA season opened. The scam allegedly spans multiple NBA seasons and involves several high-profile players and coaches. The FBI has linked the scam to organized crime families. According to ESPN, the FBI began investigating in 2023 after Terry Rozier exited a game early due to a foot injury. Sportsbooks noted that an unusual number of bets were placed on “unders” on the day that the injury occurred. The number of bets placed triggered suspicion that betters were operating with insider knowledge and that Rozier was faking injuries for profit.
Rozier has been charged with money laundering and wire fraud, both felonies. The charges are based on the idea that Rozier was giving associates insider information to help them defraud the now-legal sportsbooks. The crimes fall under federal jurisdiction. The charges could land Rozier in prison for up to 40 years.
He was released on bail the same day after putting his $6 million Florida home up as collateral. According to Fox 35 Orlando, Rozier had to surrender his passport and agree not to contact anyone involved in the case to secure his release. The NBA has suspended him. The Miami Heat have remained largely quiet on the situation.
Terry Rozier was once attached to an infamous influencer
While Terry Rozier’s latest scandal is by far his worst, considering the legal implications, it’s not the first time his name has come up off the court. Last year, a pornstar made waves when she joked that the Miami Heat would be winning their upcoming contest thanks to her. Pornstar and influencer, Celina Powell, took to X (formerly Twitter) in November 2024 to claim the Miami Heat were a shoo-in to win their contest against the Denver Nuggets because she ‘f****d’ one of the players before the game. She didn’t name Rozier, but used his jersey number in the tweet, which is as good as identifying him.
Rozier never discussed his alleged connection to Powell. They were never seen together off the court. The comment, however, did get plenty of attention. It is unclear if Powell and Rozier actually hooked up, though. The influencer has made some petty, lofty claims over her years in the public eye. She has rarely, if ever, been able to back them up with evidence. Powell once claimed to be pregnant with Offset’s baby. She made the accusation in 2017, when his then-wife, Cardi B, was also pregnant. She later admitted she had made up the story. Powell also accused Snoop Dogg of cheating on his wife with her, which he has vehemently denied.
