Amber Portwood Goes on Maniacal Rant Over Potential Cancellation of ‘Teen Mom’
MTV has not yet announced whether season 2 of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter will be the final season of the franchise. Sure, it feels like an organic place to stop, with the original children turning 16. Still, the network hasn’t announced a final decision. According to Amber Portwood and Ryan Edwards, however, it is a done deal. Edwards sparked cancellation rumors months ago when he claimed the series was canceled in child support paperwork. Now, Amber Portwood is using TikTok to mock her former castmates. In a recent livestream, she claimed her decision to walk away has put them out of business.
Amber Portwood mocks her former coworkers over rumored ‘Teen Mom’ cancellation
It’s another day and another TikTok rant for Amber Portwood. The former reality TV star returned to TikTok at the end of October to discuss all things Teen Mom. She was in a mocking mood. The mother of two said the entire franchise had been canceled. Then she claimed she is the reason her former friends and co-stars are out of jobs. During the lengthy rant, she discussed her decision to leave and how she thought it impacted others. Eventually, she circled back to how her former friends had “wronged” her. She once again claimed she had previously “protected” them.
While Portwood’s most recent statement about the show is the most mean-spirited yet, it isn’t the first time she’s claimed she is the reason the show will end. Months ago, Portwood announced that she had quit the series. She said that she would see to it that the show was canceled.
Portwood was steaming mad over the production team’s decision to air her estrangement from her daughter. Leah Shirley’s desire to be adopted by her stepmom was a storyline. She was also angry at her friends for going along with it. Her ire for them has only grown exponentially, it seems.
There also appears to be some debate regarding whether Portwood was fired or if she quit the series, but that’s a story for another day. Portwood’s former friends and co-stars, namely Maci Bookout and Catelynn Lowell, who have been largely supportive of Portwood, have not commented on her string of angry social media meltdowns. The meltdowns are mostly aimed at them.
Catelynn Lowell has offered a more pragmatic look at what is going on
While Amber Portwood is proclaiming the show is over and that she is the one who wielded the ultimate power, her former co-star is much more pragmatic about the current state of affairs. Catelynn Lowell has taken to social media to answer questions in recent days, and she answered honestly when asked about the fate of the series. Lowell revealed that she and her co-stars have heard nothing from MTV yet.
She said the show is neither canceled nor renewed, and that the network technically has until May 2026, a year after the most recent finale aired, to let them know what is going on. Lowell noted that it is written into their contract. She did mention that there has been a lot of change over at the network, and as the company realigns itself, big shakeups are happening. Ridiculousness was recently canceled, and Catfish was axed, too. It’s possible that Teen Mom: The Next Chapter could be the next to receive a cancellation notice. If it does get canceled, however, we can assume Amber Portwood’s departure isn’t what brought the longstanding franchise down, no matter what she says.
