Amy Duggar King is years removed from 19 Kids and Counting and TLC. She’s also getting honest about how the Duggar family made her feel. Amy Duggar King admits that filming and her label as the “rebel” of the family often left her in tears. She has been open about how the label bothered her.
Amy Duggar King says filming with her family made her cry
Amy Duggar King admits that the vivacious act that fans saw on 19 Kids and Counting might not have been as close to reality as possible. During a chat with E! News, the 38-year-old admitted that she often left filming feeling bogged down and in tears. It wasn’t the long days, hot lights, or even the camera crew that made her feel so down after shoots. She said it was her own family interactions.

Duggar King told the outlet that mistreatment from her own family over the years took its toll. She admitted to feeling extremely misunderstood. Duggar King only played along for the years she appeared on the family’s show. Following its cancellation, hastened by Josh Duggar’s arrest for receiving and possessing child pornography, Duggar King and the Duggar family went their separate ways, save for a few preserved connections.
Who does she still speak to in her family?
Amy Duggar King doesn’t have a close connection to many of her cousins these days. She’s made the decision to cut ties with the “toxic” members of the clan, and appears to only maintain a public relationship with Jill Dillard. Dillard positioned herself as the Duggar family rebel by taking a stand against her parents. The cousins have remained close despite all of the family drama.
As for the others, Amy appears to be keeping her distance, and they seem to be doing the same. In a 2023 chat with Vanity Fair, Duggar King discussed her connection, or lack thereof, to Jana Duggar, the last of the older Duggar girls to get married. Amy said that while she wishes her happiness and hopes she has worked through whatever she’s experienced, she has no contact with her. Duggar King was not on hand at her wedding, either. While the cousins are relatively close in age, they have markedly different lived experiences as adults.
Amy Duggar King appears in season 2 of Shiny Happy People. She has also penned a tell-all book. Holy Disruptor: Shattering the Shiny Facade by Getting Louder with the Truth is scheduled for release in October. Jill Dillard and Jinger Vuolo have also penned books about their life inside the Duggar family.
