The lights went dark on Strws Hollow for the last time in 2016, following a four-part revival on Netflix. Since then, Gilmore Girls fans have been clamoring for more. The cast has been eager to return to the set as well. Recently, Lauren Graham floated the idea of a holiday special, and it sounds like show creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and her writer husband, Dan Palladino, are totally into the idea. They just discussed it days before Amazon announced the cancellation of the new series they created.

Lauren Graham wants to revisit ‘Gilmore Girls’ in the form of a special

Lauren Graham has spent years insisting she would always be available to portray Lorelai Gilmore again. She even has a “Gilmore” clause written into her contracts. Recently, her efforts to return to Stars Hollow have been a bit more focused on the idea of a special.

In March 2025, Graham appeared on NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! and Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert. During both appearances, she discussed returning to Stars Hollow and her idea for a holiday special. During an April 2025 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, she again discussed the idea of a holiday-themed special to let fans reconnect with the Gilmores and all of Stars Hollow. Graham said British holiday episodes inspired the idea. Despite her spirited campaign, she insisted the idea had been “sanctioned by no one.” Now, the right people have heard about it.

Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino respond to Lauren Graham’s recent campaign

Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino just responded to Lauren Graham’s desire to head back to Stars Hollow for a special event of some sort. Entertainment Tonight caught up with the power couple at the Gotham Television Awards in New York City and asked them about Graham’s media campaign for a Gilmore Girls special. They were both in great spirits and happy to discuss the iconic series.

Lauren Graham Says She’s Been Paid in ‘Love and Appreciation’ for ‘Gilmore Girls’

Dan Palladino made it clear that he and his wife have not put Gilmore Girls to bed for good. He said, “Something’s going to happen,” when asked about a return to Stars Hollow. Amy Sherman-Palladino was a bit more committed to Graham’s vision of a special, noting that Graham hadn’t floated the idea to her until recently. She went on to say that the beloved actor should get what she wants.

While neither announced a new revival or special, their words have been the most concrete evidence of possible talks in the last year. It is clear that not all hope is lost.

The couple’s words come after a recent series cancellation

Amy Sherman-Palladino’s most recent series, Étoile, wasn’t the hit Amazon Prime assumed it would be. The series has been canceled halfway through a two-season commitment, reports AV Club. While the cancellation is indeed sad for fans who were heavily invested in the ballet-focused series, it might be good news for Gilmore Girls fans. Considering what both Sherman-Palladino and Palladino had to say recently, it sounds like something certainly might be in the works.

Étoile was Sherman-Palladino’s second attempt at a dance-themed series. In 2012, she created Bunheads. The series also lasted just one season on ABC Family. It still has fans, though.
