‘And Just Like That…’ Fans Remain Critical of the Fashion, but Carrie Bradshaw’s Accessories Have Always Been Over the Top
Season 3 of And Just Like That… is in full swing. The premiere episode, released on HBO Max on May 29, served as a setup for what is sure to be a dramatic summer with Carrie Bradshaw and her pals. Despite significant plot developments, some fans remain hyper-focused on Carrie Bradshaw’s bizarre accessories in the premiere episode. While maybe not the best choice, it’s totally on-brand. Carrie had several fashion blunders during the run of Sex and the City. Accessories were her kryptonite.
Carrie’s hat choice in season 3 has everyone talking
In Season 3, Episode 1 of And Just Like That…, Carrie Bradshaw made a bold return to form with an accessory that instantly sparked conversation: an oversized gingham hat. The hat was an odd choice for an already bold outfit, and Sex and the City fans couldn’t help but make fun of it. Several social media followers suggested the oversized cap made Carrie look like a cartoon character.
Despite all of the hate, Sarah Jessica Parker is defending Carrie Bradshaw’s bold hat accessory. She is even taking credit for it. She told USA Today, “I saw the hat and wanted it on my head.” While the cap is getting a lot of hate, one of the complaints is not justified. Some fans don’t think the hat was characteristic of something Carrie would wear. If you think about it, though, it’s entirely in character. She had several fashion flops over the years.
Carrie Bradshaw’s accessories didn’t always enhance her outfits
While fashion was a key component of Sex and the City, not every choice Carrie Bradshaw made was inspired. In fact, some of the accessory choices the sex columnist made were downright goofy. They either overwhelmed her, didn’t make sense for the outfit, or were horribly impractical.
For a brief moment, the beloved character tried to channel a casual, off-duty writer vibe. She really wanted to make newsboy hats happen. Unfortunately, the oversized slouchy ones she favored felt more costume than chic. They were often oddly paired and didn’t contribute much to her overall style.

She often ran into the same problem with handbags. While Carrie had plenty of gorgeous designer bags, ever so often, she deviated from the norm and pulled out something completely wild. She once carried an Eiffel Tower bag, and she pranced around Manhattan during season 2 of And Just Like That… carrying a pigeon purse.
She also served up fashion misses with oversized flowers and odd belt placements. While Carrie was often fully together fashion-wise, she did have the occasional misstep, often when she was trying something bold. It’s a fun part of the character’s personality, and we can say we hate seeing the mistakes. Sure, an oversized gingham hat wasn’t a great look, but it certainly sparked conversation.
