After Andrew Loses His Prince Title Are the Sussexes Next? It’s ‘a Question of When, Not If’
In a move many weren’t sure King Charles would do or even had the power to do, the monarch came down hard on his brother by removing his prince title and evicting him from his home.
The Palace issued a statement on Oct. 30 that read: “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew. Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation.
“These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him. Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”
Following this bombshell news brought up questions about whether Andrew’s daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, will retain or lose their titles, and if Prince Harry will lose his. Here’s more on that and what’s next for Andrew and his former wife, Sarah Ferguson.
Where Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson are headed
As mentioned in the statement, Andrew will be vacating his massive 30-room Royal Lodge residence.
The disgraced family member had a 75-year lease agreement to stay at the property. But with mounting pressure from the public and other royals, Andrew saw the writing on the wall and knew staying there was no longer a real possibility.
He will reportedly move to a private home near the family’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk. And Fergie, who was living at Royal Lodge with him, is now expected to find her own residence elsewhere.
Expert says the ‘sun is setting on Montecito,’ Harry and Meghan are next to lose their titles
Many were convinced that only an act of Parliament could result in Andrew losing his title until King Charles proved otherwise. Now will other non-working royals receive the same fate?
Prince Harry and Meghan do not have ties to a convicted sex offender or any disturbing allegations against them like Harry’s uncle. Therefore, many believe they will keep their titles as taking them away would seem petty due to nothing but family drama. On the other hand, the two have caused damage to the royal family’s reputation and with a new slimmed-down monarchy, Charles could make a case for removing titles from all family members who are not working royals, which would include the Sussexes.
According to one royal commentator, Andrew losing his title spells the end for Meghan and Harry keeping theirs, saying now it is “a question of when, not if.” Moreover, the expert believes that this is exactly what the Prince of Wales wanted as his brother and sister-in-law will surely be banished from all aspects of royal life once he is king.
In her column for the Daily Mail, Maureen Callahan wrote: “The sun begins to set over Montecito — permanently. Harry and Meghan are next.”
She opined that Andrew was essentially a “pawn removed by [Prince] William to clear the way for his real target: Harry … If William can have convinced the infamously conflict-averse Charles to renounce his own brother — well, Harry’s days as prince and Duke of Sussex are surely numbered.
“As for Meghan? Like Fergie, she would just be collateral damage. An afterthought. Flotsam in search of a shore — perhaps QVC’s Pennsylvania headquarters is where she might shill As Ever overstock on deep discount. Sayonara, Sussexes!”
