For years, Andy Dick has been in and out of the news. The former actor and comedian is no stranger to controversy and has been called out for bad behavior many times over the years. Dick himself has admitted that drugs and alcohol have led to many poor decisions on his part. Despite that, Dick has struggled to remain sober. A scary overdose incident earlier this week may spur some change, though. Dick is headed to rehab after initially declining to seek treatment. The positive news could be a step in the right direction.

Andy Dick headed to rehab

Andy Dick gave the world a fright earlier this week when he was spotted on the streets of Hollywood, completely unresponsive. According to reports from TMZ, Dick was revived by friends and bystanders with Narcan, a drug designed to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. Dick refused medical attention, though an ambulance was dispatched to the scene. He later connected with TMZ to give a statement.

At the time, Andy Dick told the outlet that he was totally fine and did not need any further medical attention. He scoffed at the notion of heading to rehab again. The former TV star’s appearance and behavior, however, signaled to the world that the opposite was likely true. Thankfully, Dick has changed his tune about receiving help.

On December 12, TMZ caught up with Dick yet again, and he had changed his attitude about rehab. According to the outlet, the NewsRadio star has voluntarily entered rehab after friends expressed their concern for his current state. He is headed to an undisclosed rehab facility in Palm Springs on a scholarship. It is unclear how long he’ll be at the facility, but rehab programs can range from 2 days up to six months in some cases.

Friend Jenny Giminez reportedly spearheaded efforts to get Dick into a facility. Giminez, a model and addiction recovery advocate, has known Dick for more than two decades. She has previously helped place other celebrities in rehab and mental health facilities when needed.
