Andy Dick Allegedly Revived with Narcan on a Los Angeles Street
Andy Dick is lucky to be alive right now. The comedian with a longstanding history of drug and alcohol abuse was reportedly saved by Narcan on the streets of Los Angeles. While he was revived just yesterday, he is already speaking out about what happened, but he’s keeping his statement pretty vague. Andy Dick has a long history with drugs and alcohol.
Narcan saved Andy Dick on a busy Los Angeles street
Andy Dick had a scary medical emergency on December 9. According to TMZ, Dick was spotted on a Hollywood street, slumped over and unresponsive, his signature glasses on the ground next to him. According to the outlet, several bystanders reacted, attempting to rouse the comedian before calling 911. Narcan was administered before EMTs arrived, and the drug revived Dick before an ambulance made it to him. According to the outlet, he refused medical treatment.
Dick later spoke to TMZ about the incident, claiming he was alive and doing just fine. Dick refused to provide further comment or to reveal exactly what happened. He made no mention of drug use, nor did he discuss how Narcan was administered by a bystander.
Narcan can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. The life-saving drug is available over the counter nationwide. Some community outreach programs offer Narcan kits free of charge. It is often sold as a nasal spray.
The comedian has been to multiple rehabs after many drug and alcohol-related arrests
While Andy Dick’s most recent drug-related incident was clearly scary, it was downright tame in comparison to incidents that have occurred in the past. Andy Dick has a long and very well-documented history of drug and alcohol abuse. The former TV star has been pretty forthcoming about the problem, noting once that alcohol makes him lose all sense of what is appropriate behavior. During a chat with Vice, Dick revealed he’d lost everything to his drug and alcohol addiction, which caused plenty of destruction along the way. He lost work, friends, romantic partners, and his property to his struggles.
The problem started back in the 1990s, with one of his first documented issues coming in 1999. In 1999, then a rising star, Dick, crashed into a utility pole after a night out. He was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, and a DUI, among other things. He agreed to complete a diversion program.
While Andy Dick completed the diversion program, it did little to stop his erratic behavior. From 2000 until 2016, he was arrested multiple times for crimes ranging from public intoxication to sexual battery to drug possession. Between arrests were stints in rehab. Dick once revealed he had been to 20 rehab programs in as many years.
In 2023, he was once again arrested for public intoxication. He was later charged with failing to register as a sex offender in Lake Elsinore, California, a town about two hours from Los Angeles. The arrest occurred a year after Dick served 90 days in jail for sexual battery.
