Angelina Jolie Breaks Silence on Kids Dropping Brad Pitt’s Name
Many of Angelina Jolie’s kids have legally dropped Brad Pitt’s last name. The children have aligned themselves with their mother following allegations that Pitt became violent with the family on a flight. As Jolie’s children distance themselves from their father, she reportedly hopes to maintain a sense of peace.

Pitt and Jolie, who married in 2014 after many years together, share six children. Jolie filed for divorce in 2016 following allegations that Pitt violently attacked her on a plane. In 2024, their daughter Shiloh filed to drop “Pitt” from her last name. Since then, Zahara, Maddox, and Vivienne have followed suit.
“If people knew the whole truth, they would have more sympathy for the children and respect them,” a source close to Jolie told People. “The fact they aren’t speaking ill or sharing things publicly only shows their decency.”
Zahara and Maddox’s petitions to change their names remain pending. Vivienne filed most recently. Shiloh’s petition was successfully granted in 2024.
“Angie hasn’t been fighting and isn’t angry,” the source said. “She just wants everyone to heal.”
