Ariana Grande has been famous for years, but she admitted that life in the public eye has not been easy. Luckily, she had several other celebrity women willing to offer her guidance and support. Ariana Grande said two famous women reached out to her in her early days of success
Grande rose to fame on the show Victorious, but she became a true star through her music career. She said the quick rise to fame was disorienting, but some industry veterans offered her support.
“I’m very lucky that my idols have been very kind to me,” she said on the Shut Up Evan podcast (via Billboard), adding, “I remember Madonna immediately was very kind. I think she was one of the first people to reach out and, like, give me a warm welcome, and it was just really cool. I was overwhelmed by it, because I love her so much.”
In 2013, Grande performed at the American Music Awards. Shortly afterwards, Beyoncé asked to meet with her to offer friendly advice.
“Beyoncé had me come visit a music video she was shooting, and I was just there in the corner,” she said. “I was like, ‘Why am I here?’ It was after I sang ‘Tattooed Heart’ on the AMAs. She invited me to set to visit her, and she just was being kind. She gave me a little bit of advice, and, you know, I asked, but she was so kind.”
Grande said she feels grateful that her heroes looked out for her.
“But yeah, I feel like I had people I really looked up to embrace me,” she said. “It made me feel safe.”
Ariana Grande said Mariah Carey also helped her navigate being famous
Grande has always spoken positively about her relationship with Mariah Carey. Grande cites Carey as a major influence on her music. In fact, Carey moved Grande to tears when she invited the young star to appear in a music video for “All I Want for Christmas Is You” in 2019.
“It just means a lot to hear from her because my sound was so influenced by her and the 1990s pop sound,” Grande said, per Elle. “The fact that she thought of me is very soul-shaking. You know what I mean? It just means a lot, as an artist and a fan.”
Grande and Carey have collaborated on several projects over the years.
Grande said that fame has not been easy to navigate
Since her debut album launched her to global success, Grande’s star power has only grown. Her romantic relationships face public scrutiny, and people often discuss her appearance. The now 32-year-old admitted this has not been easy to navigate.
“Nothing prepares you for what comes with it,” she told The New York Times. “Until quite recently, it was really hard for me to navigate, and I think it stripped a lot of joy out of this for me.”
In recent years, Grande said she has tried to shift from pop megastardom to a quieter life and career.
