Ashley Jones Spills Tea on Amber Portwood, Says MTV ‘Benched’ Her Former Co-Star
Amber Portwood’s reign at MTV has ended. Portwood revealed that she walked away from the Teen Mom franchise after more than a decade on the air several weeks back. Not everyone is convinced that is how it happened. Ashley Jones has shown up to suggest that Portwood was shown the door by MTV. She even suggested that the troubled Indiana native had disciplinary action taken against her years ago. Jones said MTV had “benched” Amber Portwood at least once before she was fired.

Ashley Jones and Amber Portwood have been trading barbs online for days. Their recent TikTok Live event was by far the most chaotic moment yet. While the duo yelled at each other incoherently several times, they also shared a lot of Teen Mom secrets. There is much to unpack there, but let’s focus on what Jones said about Portwood’s employment. Jones is absolutely verbally eviscerating Amber Portwood and sharing all of her secrets. She said the mother of two is lying about the end of her Teen Mom tenure, insisting Portwood was let go by the network because she didn’t read the contract.
Jones revealed it might not have been the first run-in with the network’s legal team that Portwood has had. She said the network had previously “benched” Portwood after Jones leaked a “deranged” call of Portwood threatening to “mutilate” her. Jones said an entire HR investigation had to be carried out because of Portwood’s threats. Jones pushed further, stating that MTV “ghosted” the original cast member.
According to Entertainment Now, Jones is likely referring to a 2022 incident in which Portwood took offense to Jones twerking near a car she was in. Jones maintains she didn’t know Portwood was in a nearby Sprinter Van while she made a TikTok.
MTV firing Amber makes a lot of sense
While Portwood continues to insist that she stepped away from the Teen Mom franchise voluntarily, almost no one would be shocked if Jones’ retelling of events was far closer to the reality of the situation. While the network has largely protected Portwood over the years, she’s grown more erratic recently. Her recent TikTok Live tirades have not only taken aim at her former fiancé, Gary Shirley. She’s made negative comments about the network, too. At this point, she is more of a liability than an asset.
The fact that Portwood doesn’t appear to have any career prospects in the pipeline at the moment is another clue that she has likely been fired. Her aggression towards the network is also a big clue. Portwood has threatened to have the series pulled from the air and even suggested she was looking to block a potential spinoff featuring her teenage daughter.
