Aubrey Plaza Once Described Christopher Abbott as Her Perfect Scene Partner
Aubrey Plaza and Christopher Abbott are expecting a child together. The couple reportedly began dating during the summer of 2025. Before their romance started, though, they were co-workers. Plaza and Abbott appeared in a film and a stage play together. She said she thoroughly enjoyed working with him.
Aubrey Plaza spoke highly of Christopher Abbot when they worked together
In 2020, Plaza and Abbott starred in the psychological drama Black Bear. Three years later, they reunited in the Off-Broadway revival of John Patrick Shanley’s Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. This is a two-person play about the relationship between their characters. Both actors looked forward to working together again.
“He cares but he also doesn’t care; it’s the best recipe for me for a scene partner,” Plaza told The New York Times. “It’s fun and it’s also good and it’s also safe. I like to just throw things out the window also and laugh and mess around and not take it so seriously. It’s a hard combo to come by.”
Abbott said he liked working with Plaza because both of them were not afraid to be “ugly and weird and strange” onstage. He also said that during each performance, he sought to entertain Plaza, not just the audience.
“We’re doing this play every night for an audience, but I think you also have to do it for each other,” he said. “We want to entertain the audience, but I personally want to entertain Aubrey.”
The play’s director, Jeff Ward, spoke about the palpable chemistry between Plaza and Abbott when they worked together. He said it was obvious to him after watching Black Bear.
“From Black Bear, it was clear that it was going to be electric. There was no ‘getting to know you’ section,” he said. “There’s just something about the way they match up.”
