Bachelor in Paradise might feel like it’s just heating up. Still, the contestants left in Costa Rica are actually barreling towards the finish line and, for the first time in series history, a massive cash prize. While the cash prize was a big surprise to everyone, including the contestants, they had headed to Costa Rica knowing they would be paid. Bachelor in Paradise contestants are always paid for their involvement in the show, but in years past, they had some room to negotiate their rate. Justin Glaze recently revealed that that was not the case heading into season 10. So, how much did the contestants make?

‘Bachelor in Paradise’ contestants have room to negotiate their pay rate

Bachelor in Paradise changed everything with season 10. The location of the show, the gameplay, and the number of people involved have all changed. The way contestants are paid has changed, too. According to several sources, Bachelor in Paradise contestants were previously able to negotiate a daily pay rate based on their popularity and reach. That wasn’t the case for season 10.

In previous seasons, some contestants would appear on the beach making $400 per day, while others earned upwards of $800 per day for their time. The higher pay rates often went to contestants with large social media followings or those who brought something extra to the table, like a villain arc.

Season 10 pay was different, said Justin Glaze

By the time season 10 of Bachelor in Paradise rolled around, Justin Glaze was something of a veteran. He had appeared in Season 17 of The Bachelorette as a contestant and later appeared in Season 8 of Bachelor in Paradise. He was familiar with the negotiation process. After all, he had been through it before.  He recently revealed that he found himself in uncharted waters during the casting process for season 10, though.

During an appearance on Trading Secrets, Glaze stated that there was no room for negotiations during the season 10 casting. He noted that he was told there was a “flat rate,” and no cast member was being given preferential treatment. The production team couldn’t tell Glaze why they weren’t setting the pay rate based on popularity at the time, but it became obvious later on. The prize money changed everything, but for Glaze, it didn’t really matter. He left the series before the prize money became available. He did not reveal exactly what contestants earned per day. Based on previous years and factoring in the prize component, contestnat probably made around $500 per day.

Are contestants on ‘The Bachelor’ and ‘The Bachelorette’ paid?

Bachelor in Paradise contestants are paid for their time on the beach. What about those who sign up to appear on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette? As it turns out, those contestants are not paid for their time. In fact, many contestants have gone into debt or spent thousands of dollars to appear on the series. The wardrobe alone has cost some contestants close to $10,000.

While contestants aren’t paid for their time, the lead on each season is compensated for their involvement. The amount they earn can vary based on their popularity and whether they are famous outside of Bachelor Nation. According to TV Insider, recent leads have earned $100,000 or more for their involvement in the show.
