Bad Bunny Said His Past Shows in the US Were ‘Magnificent’
Following the announcement of his Grammy-winning album DeBí TiRAR MáS FOToS, Bad Bunny announced that he would not tour in the United States. He played a lengthy residency in Puerto Rico, which is an unincorporated territory of the United States, but he did not want to play shows throughout the 50 states. He said this was not rooted in any dislike for the country, but rather out of concern for his fans.
Bad Bunny once spoke about his decision not to perform in the US
Bad Bunny kicked off his tour in November 2025. He will travel across the world to play shows, but is notably skipping the United States. He has played in the country in the past, and said he always enjoyed the shows.
“There were many reasons why I didn’t show up in the US, and none of them were out of hate — I’ve performed there many times,” he told i-D. “All of [the shows] have been successful. All of them have been magnificent. I’ve enjoyed connecting with Latinos who have been living in the US.”
He noted that fans from the United States could have attended his 31-show residency in Puerto Rico.
“[S]pecifically, for a residency here in Puerto Rico, when we are an unincorporated territory of the US… People from the US could come here to see the show,” he said. “Latinos and Puerto Ricans of the United States could also travel here, or to any part of the world.”
He did not want to put any of his fans at risk, though, and the ongoing ICE raids worried him.
“But there was the issue of — like, f***ing ICE could be outside [my concert],” he said. “And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”
He also criticized ICE in his Grammy acceptance speech
At the Grammy Awards, Bad Bunny took home the award for Best Música Urbana Album. Like many winners that night, he took the opportunity to speak out against ICE.
“Before I say thanks to God, I’m gonna say: ICE out,” he said. “We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans.”
He included a plea for people to fight hate with love.
“The only thing that’s more powerful than hate is love,” he said. “So, please, we need to be different. If we fight, we have to do it with love. We don’t hate them. We love our people. We love our family and there’s a way to do it, with love, and don’t forget that.”
Bad Bunny will soon play his first US show this year at the Super Bowl
This year, Bad Bunny will play his first and only US show at the Super Bowl. He will be the first halftime show performer to give a show entirely in Spanish.
“What I’m feeling goes beyond myself,” he said, per NBC. “It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”
His upcoming show has drawn criticism from Republicans, including Donald Trump.
