Ben Affleck Shared His Theory on Why There Are so Many Photos of Him Looking Like a Mess
There are hundreds of photos of Ben Affleck taken by the paparazzi. Some of these show Affleck with romantic partners, some with his children, and some on his own, in various states of distress. Affleck shared why he thinks there’s an abundance of photos of him dropping coffee or looking bedraggled.

Affleck is never surprised to see photographers outside his home or on the street. It happens to him constantly, and he’s learned not to care.
“I think I don’t present in a very careful way,” he told GQ. “So I’ll go out and pick up the packages or deliveries and I don’t really care that people are there to take my picture.”
He understands that other celebrities are more careful about the image they present to the public. He said he just wants to live his life.
“[S]ome people are probably, I guess you’d call them smarter or more strategic because they think, well: ‘I don’t want to be seen wearing some T-shirt or spilling some drink.’ And I just think: Oh f*** it, man, I could give a s***. I just want to get the coffee,” he said. “So maybe that’s a part of it, because people are accustomed to a more presented, curated image.”

While Affleck said he tries to live with the constant presence of photographers, he thinks it’s ridiculous that people have such an interest in his life.
“I’m aware that it’s absurd and it’s ridiculous,” he said. “There’s nothing newsworthy at all about the day-to-day events of my life or the conversation I have with one person or another person that’s photographed.”
He noted that tabloids often conflate two unrelated events to manufacture drama. He said he tries not to let it get to him, though.
“[O]ften it’s like the big trick is to say So-and-so does this amid that, imply some correlation between the two,” he said. “In other words, some broad event is taking place in some way, whether globally or around this person’s life. And look, here they are frustrated with the parking meter. I’m definitely aware of the cosmic joke of it all. What I’ve ended up focusing on is: Look, I know what’s going on in my life. And also, really more importantly, my kids know.”
He has had to examine his role in the world of tabloids
Affleck has been famous for decades. He has had a long time to think about the role the media plays in his life. He doesn’t think it’s possible to manufacture the way he’s portrayed.
“It’s because I’ve been forced into analyzing it to try to figure it out, to understand: What is it?” he asked. “Because naturally you go, like, ‘Okay, maybe I’ll just wear the same outfit every single day, so the pictures won’t be distinguishable.’ Or maybe: ‘I’ll just look like a slob,’ and I’m like, nope — then you become the sad Affleck meme spilling the coffee.”
Still, he acknowledged he found the memes funny.
