Beyoncé and Solange have a close sisterly bond, so much so that the “Bodyguard” singer was in the delivery room when her younger sister gave birth. While she wanted to support her sister, she admitted that she wasn’t looking forward to being in there with her. She shared why she thought watching Solange give birth could completely change her future plans.

Beyoncé said she didn’t want to watch Solange give birth

Solange is Beyoncé’s younger sister, but she gave birth several years before Beyoncé did. Beyoncé supported her in the delivery room, but she admitted she dreaded the experience. She thought watching someone give birth would make her not want children.

“I didn’t want to be in the delivery room, because I thought I would never want to [give birth],” she told Cosmopolitan. “But I was moved by the experience, so it didn’t make me not want to have kids.”

Still, she said that the birth of her nephew didn’t inspire her to start having children right away.

“It’s made me want to wait a while,” she said. “I babysat for my nephew last week, and [motherhood] is not as glamorous as it looks.”

She has since had three children

In 2012, several years after watching Solange give birth to her son, Beyoncé and Jay-Z welcomed their first child, Blue Ivy. Five years later, they welcomed twins Rumi and Sir. Though the children have some of the most famous people in the world as their parents, Beyoncé said she has tried to give them normal childhoods.

“One thing I’ve worked extremely hard on is making sure my kids can have as much normalcy and privacy as possible, ensuring my personal life isn’t turned into a brand,” she told GQ. “It’s very easy for celebrities to turn our lives into performance art. I have made an extreme effort to stay true to my boundaries and protect myself and my family. No amount of money is worth my peace.”

She also wants to be present in their lives, so she tries to build her schedule around theirs.

“I build my work schedule around my family,” she said, adding, “I try to only tour when my kids are out of school. I always dreamt of a life where I could see the world with my family and expose them to different languages, architecture, and lifestyles.”

Beyoncé said that while parenting isn’t always easy, she loves it.

“Parenting constantly teaches you about yourself,” she said. “It takes a lot of prayer and patience. I love it. It’s grounding and fulfilling.”

Beyoncé and Solange have a supportive relationship

Beyoncé also cherishes her relationship with Solange. She said that watching her music career flourish has filled her with pride.
