After two years with a mysterious facial parasite, Brandi Glanville said her breast implants are to blame. The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star has been open with fans about her facial disfigurement and the frustration she has felt while trying to find out what was wrong. Her quest for a diagnosis, she said, has cost her thousands of dollars.

Brandi Glanville believed her breast implants worsened her facial parasites

Glanville got breast implants in 2007, shortly after the birth of her son. She described the silicone implants as “illegal,” noting that they are no longer on the market.

After years of struggling with facial disfigurement caused by a parasite, Glanville said she realized what was wrong after a sonogram. Her breast implants had ruptured.

“Mine had completely ruptured, and I had silicone all over my lymph nodes,” she said, per People. “That’s what caused the infection in my face; it couldn’t get out as my lymph nodes were all clogged.”

The woman performing the sonogram and her former RHOBH co-star, Yolanda Hadid, encouraged her to get her implants taken out.

While she has since removed her implants, Glanville’s search for a diagnosis cost her a lot of money. She said she visited 21 doctors.

“So you do labs every time, and it’s, like, $1,000 just to get to see a new doctor,” she told Radar Online. “You kind of feel like you’re getting passed around but not getting any answers.”

She has previously stated that her medical bills totaled over $130,000. The cost of her medical treatment began to impact her lifestyle.

“I wasn’t working but having to pay for groceries, my rent, my car insurance,” she said. “I lost my house because I couldn’t afford it anymore, so I had to move.”

As this was happening, she said her symptoms continued to worsen.

She encouraged others to maintain their implants

Glanville said that people with breast implants should change them every 10 years. She’d had hers for nearly two decades.

“I was shocked, because they’re implants that I’ve had for almost 20 years, they looked fine, they felt fine, the mammogram said they were fine, it wasn’t until I had a sonogram,” she said. “You really should change your breast implants every 10 years, and I just didn’t do it.”
