Britney Spears’ family is reportedly stepping in following her arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. In a statement, a representative for Spears said they hope Spears’ arrest serves as a wake up call. As she moves forward, her family reportedly wants to set her up for future success.

Britney Spears’ family will set up a plan for ‘success’ following DUI arrest

On Wednesday, California Highway Patrol pulled Spears over for “erratic[ally] braking, swerving and driving without taillights.” They arrested her and impounded her car before releasing her early Thursday morning.

“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” a representative for Spears told the LA Times in a statement. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in a long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully she can get the support she needs during this difficult time.”

They added that Spears’ two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden, and other loved ones will implement a plan to support her.

“Her boys are going to be spending time with her,” the representative said. “Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well-being.”

What is Britney Spears’ relationship with her family like after her conservatorship?

It’s not clear which family members will support Spears following her arrest. After her conservatorship ended in 2021, she has had a complicated relationship with her family. During a hearing, she called out her family members for not doing “a goddamn thing” to help get her out from under her father’s control.

“My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship … they should be in jail,” she said.

A source told Us Weekly that after the conservatorship ended, Spears’ relationship with her father was “nonexistent.” While she was reportedly still close to her brother, her relationships with her mother and sister were “fragile.”

Things appeared to take a turn for the worse this past Christmas. Spears made a sarcastic post calling out her family for celebrating the holiday without her.

“Merry late Christmas to my beautiful family who have never disrespected me, harmed me, ever done anything completely unacceptable or caused unbelievable trauma, the kind you can’t fix … to my dear sweet innocent family,” she wrote. “So so sorry I was busy this Christmas but I will definitely show up and surprise you soon … I can’t wait …. hello, beautiful [niece] Ivy … I just want to hold you, my love … Godspeed, friends.”

She previously said she felt ‘demoralized’ by her relationship with her sons

Spears has reportedly been spending more time with her son Jayden in recent months. She previously said she felt disappointed by her relationship with her children.

“I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys,” Spears wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Relationships with teenage boys is complex. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life.”

Spears blamed their father, Kevin Federline, for the fraught relationship.

“Sadly, they have always witnessed the lack of respect shown by [their] own father for me,” she wrote. “They need to take responsibility for themselves. With one son only seeing me for 45 min in the past 5 years and the other with only 4 visits in the past 5 years. I have pride too. From now on I will let them know when I am available.”

Several months later, Spears said she hoped to tour with one of her sons.
