Brooklyn Beckham shocked just about everyone when he posted a lengthy statement on social media about his feud with his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, accusing them of “controlling the narrative.”

In a series of Instagram Stories, Brooklyn claimed, “I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed. I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family.”

Some have compared Brooklyn’s rift with his famous parents to Prince Harry’s feud with the royal family. And now, an expert is warning Beckham against making the same mistakes the Duke of Sussex made.

Kayley Cornelius is a PR expert and celebrity commentator who has been featured in the Daily Mail, the BBC, the New York Post, and more. She believes Brooklyn is going to get plenty of offers now to tell his entire story publicly, but she would advise him against doing that.

Speaking on behalf of OLBG, Cornelius told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “Brooklyn will likely be bombarded with offers from broadcasters wanting the exclusive scoop on his story, but selling out his story too quickly could be the worst thing he could do in the near future, despite the mass public interest.

“We’ve seen with Prince Harry how overexposure or drawn-out tell-alls don’t always work in a public figure’s favor long term, and it can sometimes undermine the goodwill gained by an initial statement. That said, it’s possible we could see a carefully controlled interview at some point, potentially with a figure like Oprah, where he feels he can tell his side on his own terms.”

Following Brooklyn’s post, David appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box and spoke about educating his children on the power of social media. However, he never mentioned Brooklyn’s name or addressed his son’s claims directly. Victoria, meanwhile, returned to social media and shared a birthday tribute on her Instagram Stories to her Spice Girls bandmate Emma Bunton.

When it comes to how the couple will handle things going forward, Cornelius said, “They’ve spent decades building an image rooted in family, unity, and stability, and when a narrative like this comes from inside the family, it’s far harder to contain or redirect. This is something they will want to get under control quickly, because the longer it runs, the harder it becomes to manage.

“Their next moves could genuinely be make or break, not just reputationally, but commercially as well. With millions of pounds in brand value tied to their image, the fallout could be significant if this isn’t handled carefully.

The expert continued, “For David, there is a very real risk that unresolved controversy could impact future multi-million-pound endorsements and long-term partnerships. Brands are cautious, and if there’s any sense that public sentiment is shifting or backlash could continue, some may quietly cut ties rather than wait for clarity. That damage isn’t always loud or instant, but slow and cumulative.

“For Victoria, the timing is particularly delicate. Her fashion and beauty businesses are still growing and rely heavily on public trust and consumer goodwill.”
