In January, Brooklyn Beckham made a bombshell statement about his parents on his Instagram account. He accused them of trying to ruin his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz, and caring only about the Beckham family brand. While he faced some criticism after his post, he also received a great deal of support in the form of Instagram followers. A PR expert weighed in on how this could impact him.

Brooklyn Beckham posted a bombshell statement about his parents on Instagram

After years of speculation about Brooklyn’s relationship with his parents, he confirmed the rift in the family. He claimed he did not want to comment on the situation, but felt that his parents forced his hand.

“I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private,” he wrote. “Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.”

He accused them of trying to ruin his marriage, and said he would always put his wife first. Brooklyn added that he did not want a relationship with his parents moving forward.

“I do not want to reconcile with my family,” he wrote, adding, “I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.”

He has since posted Peltz several times on his Instagram account.

Brooklyn Beckham gained nearly 1 million Instagram followers after his post

In January, Brooklyn’s Instagram account saw a jump in followers. According to analysis by Cupid PR, Brooklyn was initially losing up to 5,000 followers a day. On Jan. 19, however, this trend reversed itself. He began gaining hundreds of thousands of followers a day.

“What this data shows very clearly is how quickly public attention can flip  and how closely social media growth mirrors real-world conversation,” Cupid PR founder Sophie Rhone tells us in a statement. “Brooklyn Beckham’s Instagram account went from steady decline to explosive growth almost overnight.”

“In today’s attention economy, visibility isn’t driven purely by content output,” she added. “It’s driven by moments. When personal narratives dominate the news cycle, social platforms act as real-time barometers for public curiosity.”

Brooklyn got the largest jump in followers between Jan. 19 and 21. In total, he gained 937,109 followers in the past 30 days. This could dramatically change his influence.

“While some of this growth will inevitably be curiosity-led, gaining close to one million followers in a single month materially changes an individual’s reach,” Rhone explained. “From a brand and media perspective, moments like this reshape perceived influence almost instantly.”

His mother’s music got a boost after his post

Brooklyn is not the only member of the family to get a boost after his Instagram post. Victoria Beckham’s fans rallied around her after the post and encouraged people to stream her 2001 solo song “Not Such an Innocent Girl.”
