Cardi B and Offset’s on-and-off again relationship appears to be over. As they head toward divorce, some of Cardi’s comments about her pre-wedding jitters seem relevant. They married in a secret ceremony in 2017. She admitted that ahead of the wedding, they both had doubts about the relationship.

Cardi and Offset were first linked in 2017. While their relationship progressed quickly, she admitted neither of them trusted the other.

“For a long time, we was in love with each other, but we didn’t really trust in each other… People used to put things in my head: ‘He gonna leave you. He be fucking with mad b****es,’” she told GQ. “People used to put things in his head: ‘Cardi, she’s a dog. Don’t trust her.’ We never really trusted each other because I always feel like he could get any girl he wants — what makes me think he’s gonna want me? I think he felt the same way.”

They spent long stretches of time apart due to their careers, and they both worried about infidelity. Still, they decided to wed despite their concerns. 

“When I got married with my dude, we still had a lot of doubts, because our relationship is not like everybody’s,” she told W Magazine. “He was always traveling, and I was always traveling. We’re artists. So I used to see him, like, twice a week, and, you know, he’s known for having different women, and I’m known for, like, not taking shit from guys. But we really loved each other, and we was scared to lose each other.”

She said she proposed in the middle of an argument. They had a secret marriage in his bedroom.

In the years after their marriage, Cardi and Offset had several high-profile conflicts. Though they split up more than once, they continued to find their way back to each other.

“The part I love is that we really like each other, like a support system,” she told Rolling Stone. “We’re really both each other’s cheerleader. I don’t really like talking to people. I’m not as social. If I want something from somebody, he’ll be the one that will talk. Because I don’t like asking.”

She said she couldn’t imagine life without him.

“I think it through. We think it through, because we do love each other,” she said. “It’s not even about love. We’re best friends. And it’s like, ‘OK. Well, there was a time that I didn’t have a best friend, or I didn’t have a support system.’ It’s not even about ‘How do you leave a partner?’ How do you stop talking to your best friend?”

Still, she filed for divorce just months after making these comments. 

The couple is now divorcing

One year after Cardi filed for divorce, she is still in the middle of divorce proceedings. She blamed Offset for dragging his feet.

“The only reason why I’m still married is because somebody wants me to pay for their taxes,” she said on X Spaces (per Us Weekly). “Y’all wanna know the tea? The only way I can get out of my marriage is if I pay for somebody else’s taxes, even though I pay for my own, and give them one of my properties. I’m fighting for that. I’m gonna fight for that. This is not no love s***.”

She has moved on to a new relationship with NFL player Stefon Diggs, announcing her pregnancy with the New England Patriots wide receiver in September 2025.
