Cardi B Admitted Her Music Would Sound Very Different if She Was on the Same ‘Level’ as Beyoncé
Cardi B has spoken highly about Beyoncé many times over the years. Cardi has taken inspiration from the older artist and hopes to one day have a career like the “Bodyguard” singer. She admitted that if she was in a similar place in her career as Beyoncé, her music might sound different. For now, though, she doesn’t think she can experiment with her sound as much.
Cardi B said she hopes for a career like Beyoncé’s one day
Cardi recently put out her sophomore album, Am I the Drama? Fans can hear her rapping on it, but she said she hopes to expand into other genres in the future. She admires the work Beyoncé did on Cowboy Carter.
“You see how Beyoncé is doing a country-album type s*** and it’s just she’s doing what she likes?” she asked Rolling Stone. “If it was up to me, I would do songs like ‘Erotica’ because that’s what I like. I like Madonna’s Erotica, ‘Justify My Love.’ If I was on that level that Beyoncé’s at, I would do songs like that.”
For now, though, she noted that she thinks she should focus more on hip-hop as a genre.
Cardi B said she admires the way Beyoncé conducts herself in public
Cardi doesn’t just want to follow a musical path similar to Beyoncé’s. She also admires Beyoncé’s reserved nature.
“Surprisingly, I have held myself back a lot — from a lot of things,” she said on The Spout podcast (via People). “You see how Beyoncé addresses her things? She does not address them at all.”
She doesn’t think celebrities should feel as though they have to bare their lives to the public. Beyoncé very rarely talks about her personal life.
“I feel like every artist should do what works for them and what’s good for they mental health because I feel like, if addressing things, to Beyoncé, affects her mental health, then don’t do it,” Cardi said.
Still, Cardi admitted she likes being open with fans.
“I’d rather just let it out,” she said. “So, I feel like everybody should, like, address their issues however they feel like they’re going to be comfortable in doing. That’s how I feel. Everybody is different.”
They collaborated on an unreleased song
Fans nearly got to hear a collaboration between Cardi and Beyoncé. In 2017, they worked on a song called “Wet,” but scrapped it after details leaked online.
“Three years ago I had Beyoncé play with Cardi and that kinda went sour because it went viral that they was doing a song together and that cut out,” said producer J White Did It, per Metro. “I was just as giddy as everybody else. I was sitting there just waiting, looking on the internet, then it leaked…”
At this point, it seems highly unlikely that fans will get to hear the collaboration. Fans can hope for one in the future, as both Cardi and Beyoncé have had multiple features on their recent albums.
