Cardi B might have felt like she ended 2025 on a high note, with a new relationship, the birth of her fourth child, and the release of a successful album. 2026, however, isn’t shaping up to be that great. At the very least, the start of the year is bringing some legal trouble for Cardi’s partner, Stefon Diggs, and now critics are piling onto the “WAP” singer, too. She recently took to Twitter to claim fans were being “mean” to her, but that didn’t stop her from defending Diggs.

New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs has had a year in the news. His relationship with Cardi B took center stage over the summer, and his on-the-field performance dominated headlines in the fall. December brought troubling coverage, though. Diggs has been charged with felony strangulation after a former employee reported a disturbing incident to police in Massachusetts.

Cardi B Once Revealed Why She Believes ‘God Blessed’ Her With Wealth

According to ESPN, a private, live-in chef who worked for Diggs told police that Diggs entered her bedroom and slapped and choked her after a dispute over her salary turned ugly. She said that, following the incident, she left the residence and returned later to collect her things. The former employee alleged that, upon returning to collect her belongings, she was asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement. She refused to do so and opted to press charges instead.

Cardi B is defending her partner against the allegations

Several days back, Cardi B took to X (formerly Twitter) to complain that her followers were being “so mean’ to her. She went on to claim there was nothing she could do to change the past, suggesting that comments about Stefon Diggs’ assault charges and her decision to seemingly stay with him were getting to her. Still, that didn’t stop her from returning to the platform to defend the same man and call the chef who accused him of assault a liar.

On January 5, a Reddit user shared a screenshot of a Cardi B tweet. In the Tweet, the music artist suggested the private chef who accused Stefon Diggs of assault was lying. She went on to claim that the chef made “no mention” of Digg’s behavior to her. She then shared a screenshot of a text message from the Chef. In it, the alleged victim tells Cardi B that she cannot discuss anything directly with her, but that she is free to talk to her mediator. The text was polite, professional, and perfectly kind. Followers remain confused by what Cardi thought she was proving with the screenshot. Regardless, Cardi B ended the post claiming she was “confident” the matter would be settled and the “truth” would come out.

It didn’t take long for Cardi B to delete the Tweet. It disappeared almost as quickly as it was sent. Stefon Diggs is due in court for an arraignment on January 23. In the meantime, Diggs remains an active member of the New England Patriots roster as they head into the playoffs.
