Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion released “WAP” in 2020 and linked up on the song “Bongos” in 2023. While they clearly work well together, Cardi admitted that they didn’t spend much time together outside of their musical collaborations. She shared why she didn’t hang out with the other rapper.

Cardi said her relationship with Megan has always been solid. They work well together.

“When, like, when I met her, you know, it was just dope, and it was a very natural, smooth [meeting],” she told XXL Magazine. “We did a song, and it went so smoothly and it went so well. Even with this ‘WAP’ performance [for the Grammys], it went so smoothly. It went so well.”

Cardi said she would always support Megan’s career. Still, she said she they didn’t spend much time together outside of work.

“I’m gonna always show her love. Like, it’s just a super respect thing,” she said. “But we don’t be hanging out. ’Cause I don’t hang out. I’m like a home potato … couch potato, you know what I’m saying? I just want to be home, have sex and be with my kid. That’s what I want to do.”

Cardi said that when Megan first rose to prominence, people speculated that she didn’t like her. 

“You know, when Megan [Thee Stallion] came out, people for a whole year was like, ‘I never seen Cardi and Megan together. I know they don’t f***ing like each other,’” she said. “I feel like people kept putting me against her and everything. I was like, Damn. That sucks. Because I like her music. But I don’t know her.”

Cardi said this wasn’t the case; she and Megan hadn’t been spotted together because she felt too nervous to approach her.

“Megan came out and for like a whole year, I never interacted with her because I was like, I don’t know. I’m too shy and everything,” she said, per E! News. “I feel like other artists are shy too. Should I be cool with her? I don’t know if she likes me.”

Once they did speak, though, she said they got along well.

“It’s always about breaking the ice and always having a conversation and catching somebody at the right time,” she said. “We linked up and she’s just such a good vibe.”

She admitted she doesn’t spend time with many celebrities

While Cardi is a celebrity, she said she doesn’t spend much time with other famous people. She said she worried about people she’d previously idolized coming to disappoint her. She also described herself as shy.

“A lot of celebrities invite me to places, but I’m really shy. We’re doing this over the phone, but if it was in person, I wouldn’t be able to look you in the eyes,” she said in a conversation with Mariah Carey for Interview Magazine. “That’s how nervous I get around celebrities. And sometimes my head starts talking, like, ‘Oh my gosh, I look stupid, I feel stupid, I’m dumb.’”

She has also said that she prefers to spend time around her family and the people she knew before fame.
