On the song “Magnet” off her sophomore album, Cardi B takes shots at a number of people, including her ex-husband, Offset, and rapper JT. The song has escalated the ongoing feud between Cardi and JT. JT put out music about Cardi, and Cardi responded this year with “Magnet.” She shared why it took her so long.

Cardi B shared her inspiration behind the song ‘Magnet’

Cardi admitted it’s hard for her to hold her tongue when she feels she’s been wronged. Still, she said she has tried to turn her head the other way in recent years.

“When it comes to the song ‘Magnet,’ it was a clear thing,” she told Paper Magazine. “People think I’m very confrontational because I do confront my conflicts. But there have been times that I have ignored people, and I feel like when I ignore them, I keep getting tried.”

She wondered if people pushed her because they thought she wouldn’t respond.

“Last year, when I felt tried, I was like, Hold on. I feel like b****es is trying me because maybe I’m just not where they think I should be in my career, or maybe because they think that I’m not gonna get in the paint with them when it comes to this rapping s***, or in real life s***. And it’s like, B****, it could get like that. It could get like that with me when it comes to music, when it goes to Twitter, when it comes to real life, like I could get like that.”

Cardi B said ‘Magnet’ proves she won’t ignore insults forever

She said that “Magnet” is the result of reaching the end of her rope with insults. JT took several shots at her on her 2024 mixtape, City Cinderella.

“It’s like Oh, you thought, you thought that I was ignoring you because I was being a good person and a goody goody,” she said. “I was ignoring you until I couldn’t take it anymore, and I had to show you that I am not the f***ing one.”

She said she felt it was better to respond in her own time. She didn’t want people to feel that they’d gotten to her.

“When a girl is being funny towards me, when it comes to music, when it comes to anything, I will respond to you when I feel like it,” she said. “I feel like people just be thinking that you supposed to get up and just run and write … B****, you don’t move me. You don’t move my thoughts, and you don’t move my f***ing day. Think I’m just gonna run to the studio to reply to a nobody? No, I’m gonna do it on my time and when it benefits me and how I like to, that’s what ‘Magnet’ is about. Now everybody mad at ‘Magnet.’ Why would you think that I’m the one to be f***ed with?”

The song has led to increased tension between Cardi and JT on social media.

The ‘Bodak Yellow’ rapper said she doesn’t seek out drama

Though Cardi’s sophomore album is titled Am I the Drama?, she said she does not seek out feuds. She believes it comes to her unbidden.

“No matter how much I avoid it is gonna come to me,” she said. “It’s gonna come to me even with the stupidest stuff. Even with the court s***. Look how it always falls on my lap, honey. One way or another, it just don’t f***ing stop.”

She said feuding with people sometimes exhausts her.
