Cardi B Once Said She Got Too Nervous to Look Other Celebrities in the Eye
Cardi B spends lots of time around other celebrities, and she admitted this wasn’t always easy for her. The rapper has been famous for years and can likely count other celebrities as her fans. Still, she said she often gets shy around her peers. She said she found it difficult to even look them in the eye.
Cardi B said she got shy around other celebrities
After rising to fame, Cardi said she started hearing from other celebrities who wanted to spend time with her. She said she hesitated to accept their invitations, though.
“A lot of celebrities invite me to places, but I’m really shy,” she told Mariah Carey in a conversation for Interview Magazine. “We’re doing this over the phone, but if it was in person, I wouldn’t be able to look you in the eyes.”
She said that when she was around other celebrities, she felt overwhelmed by self-doubt.
“That’s how nervous I get around celebrities,” she told Carey. “And sometimes my head starts talking, like, ‘Oh my gosh, I look stupid, I feel stupid, I’m dumb.’”
Cardi B also said she worried about meeting other celebrities
Cardi also worried about spending time with celebrities because she didn’t want them to disappoint her.
“I don’t want to get close to a celebrity and feel like we have a connection, and then out of nowhere they do some funny s*** and disappoint me,” she said. “I’ve always had the same friends. I’m very loyal. If I’m your friend, I’m going to always ride hard for you. But if you don’t ride hard for me or you do some funny s***, I’m going to feel a certain type of way.”
She added that she’d rather be a fan from a distance than meet them and realize she disliked them.
“That’s why I stay away from people,” she said. “My fans want me to interact with more artists, but if I love their music, I don’t want to meet them because I don’t want to hate them. I’d rather just not know them at all and love them than meet them and be like, ‘Oh my gosh, this person’s a weirdo.’ When your friends hurt you, you can vent on social media. When a celebrity does you wrong, you can’t vent because it becomes a problem.”
She spoke about the most challenging part of becoming famous
Cardi compared friendships with other celebrities to business relationships. Shortly after she rose to fame, she said that her biggest challenge was that she struggled to know who to trust.
“When I was broke, I ain’t really have nobody,” she told Fader. “Now I have so many people that support me. Do people like me ‘cause of me? Or do they just like Cardi B?”
She said she missed spending time with the people she knew before fame.
“You see how my managers and my publicist and people from the label, they around me 24/7? Sometimes I wanna be with people that remind me of who I am,” she said. “If I tell my friends I want some soda or I want a beer, they will tell me, ‘Alright b****, go downstairs and get it yourself!’”
She noted that even after years of fame, she still spends much of her time with family and old friends.
