Cardi B Shared Why She Didn’t Want to Meet Other Celebrities
Cardi B is a major star, but she admitted she had concerns about meeting with other celebrities. Not only does she consider herself shy, but she said that she worries that meeting other famous people could shatter her image of them. She noted that it was difficult for her to accept that relationships with other celebrities were more like business partnerships than real friendships.

Cardi said she worried about getting close to other celebrities because of how much she values loyalty.
“I don’t want to get close to a celebrity and feel like we have a connection, and then out of nowhere they do some funny s*** and disappoint me,” she told Mariah Carey in a conversation for Interview Magazine. “I’ve always had the same friends. I’m very loyal. If I’m your friend, I’m going to always ride hard for you. But if you don’t ride hard for me or you do some funny s***, I’m going to feel a certain type of way.”
She said that celebrities have never seemed loyal to her, and she likened their relationships to being business friends.
“It’s hard for me to put that in my head because growing up, loyalty was really big,” she said. “But celebrities aren’t like that, and that’s something that you have to find out on your own.”
She also didn’t want to meet someone she idolized and realize she didn’t like them in person.
“That’s why I stay away from people,” she said. “My fans want me to interact with more artists, but if I love their music, I don’t want to meet them because I don’t want to hate them. I’d rather just not know them at all and love them than meet them and be like, ‘Oh my gosh, this person’s a weirdo.’”
She added that it’s much harder to speak about her problems with other famous people than with her normal friends.

Cardi’s trepidation about meeting other celebrities doesn’t mean that they haven’t reached out to her. She dreaded some of these invites, as spending time with other famous people made her nervous.
“A lot of celebrities invite me to places, but I’m really shy. We’re doing this over the phone, but if it was in person, I wouldn’t be able to look you in the eyes,” she told Carey. “That’s how nervous I get around celebrities. And sometimes my head starts talking, like, ‘Oh my gosh, I look stupid, I feel stupid, I’m dumb.’”
She was once too nervous to talk to Megan Thee Stallion
Cardi has collaborated with Megan Thee Stallion on the songs “WAP” and “Bongos.” Their working relationship only happened after Cardi worked through her nerves, though.
“Megan came out and for like a whole year, I never interacted with her because I was like, I don’t know. I’m too shy and everything,” she said, per E! News. “I feel like other artists are shy too. Should I be cool with her? I don’t know if she likes me.”
Ultimately, she said she was glad to have worked past her nerves.
“It’s always about breaking the ice and always having a conversation and catching somebody at the right time,” she said. “We linked up and she’s just such a good vibe.”
