Catelynn Lowell Says She Offered to Help Amber Portwood Access Mental Health Treatment
Amber Portwood has spent much of her adult life as a reality TV star. She walked away from MTV months ago and has been in a bit of a freefall since then. Once she gave up Teen Mom, or was fired, depending on who you ask, she found a brand new, unedited creative outlet. She’s been using social media to air her grievances, and she has many of them. Amber Portwood recently opted to troll her former co-stars and friends. While they’ve largely taken it lying down, Catelynn Lowell is now opting to speak out. She is worried about Amber Portwood’s mental health.
Amber Portwood is trolling her former co-stars on social media
When Amber Potwood first began diving into TikTok over a year ago, she opted to air her grievances against her ex-fiance, Gary Shirley. She made some pretty horrific accusations against Shirley during the early days of her TikTok career. Since then, she has come for everyone. Her targets have included MTV as a whole, the producers who worked on Teen Mom, and her former co-stars. She even lashed out at Maci Bookout and Catelynn Lowell, both of whom have been very supportive of Portwood over the years.

In May 2025, Portwood claimed both Lowell and Bookout “turned” on her for money. She claims she was loyal to them, but they followed MTV’s cash. She later accused them of withholding information from her. More recently, she has threatened her former co-stars, claiming she could ruin their lives, while simultaneously mocking them. In a recent upload, she laughed while taking credit for the rumored cancellation of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. All along, fans, followers, and her former friends have quietly watched as Amber Portwoo’s mental health appears to plummet. Catelynn Lowell was apparently taking action behind the scenes. It was unsuccessful, though.

Catelynn Lowell and Maci Bookout have spent months allowing Amber Portwood to mock them and lash out at them without much commentary. Bookout is remaining quiet, but Lowell is not. The Teen Mom: The Next Chapter star sat down for a chat with content creator, Elle Bee, and opened up about the situation with Amber Portwood and what has been done to help the troubled star.
Lowell told the content creator that she reached out to Portwood multiple times in an effort to help. She said she even offered to travel with Amber Portwood to seek mental health treatment. Lowell was even willing to find an inpatient facility that could address some of her friend’s more significant issues. According to Lowell, her former co-star and friend turned down the offer.
Lowell went on to say that she’s worried for her former co-star and believes she is spiraling out of control. She opened up about watching Portwood live her life in a loop, with her only connection to the outside world being through TikTok. Lowell isn’t sure exactly what Portwood needs, but she did theorize that the former reality TV star’s medication regimen, if she is taking it, may not be sufficient.
Portwood seems to be out of friends and family for help these days. She has been estranged from her mother since 2018, after an explosive attempt at family counseling was recorded for WeTV’s Marriage Bootcamp. Her brother, Shawn Portwood Jr., currently lives out of state, while he father, Shawn Portwood Sr., died in 2014.
