Shortly after filing for divorce, designer Rachel Zoe commissioned a diamond “divorce ring” to celebrate the occasion. Emily Ratajkowski popularized the jewelry item in 2024, and experts have seen a significant rise in searches for divorce rings since then. Here’s what a jewelry expert thinks this trend tells us.

Celebrities have started wearing divorce rings

In 2025, Zoe filed for divorce from Rodger Berman, her husband of 26 years. In December, she showed that she treated herself to a diamond divorce ring. She joins Ratajkowski and Brooks Nadar as celebrities who have embraced this rising trend. Searches for divorce rings have skyrocketed in recent weeks.

“Rachel Zoe’s recent announcement of her ‘massive’ diamond divorce ring supports research indicating that the term ‘divorce ring’ has evolved from an unusual concept to a widespread cultural phenomenon,” Justin Daughters, the Director of Berganza, tells Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “In the last month alone, searches for ‘divorce rings’ have increased by 230%, demonstrating that the way we mark the end of a marriage has fundamentally changed.”

Daughters believes that this marks a cultural shift from viewing divorce as a failure. Instead, people are celebrating it as a new chapter of life.

“Historically, wedding bands were used as love symbols or proof of ownership,” he explained. “People are increasingly utilising jewellery to reclaim their sense of self. For many people, these pieces are like a ‘next chapter’ diamond, symbolising a significant shift in their lives rather than a failure. More and more people are utilising their original stones to create patterns that demonstrate how strong and resilient they are throughout times of transition.”

He also considers it significant that many women are commissioning their divorce rings for themselves.

“When popular influencers like Zoe or Emily Ratajkowski flaunt these high-value pieces, it confirms the notion of the ‘self-gift’ at a critical life stage,” he said. “This 230% surge in interest illustrates that the modern woman is commissioning the milestone diamond for herself as a symbol of personal growth, rather than waiting for her spouse to gift it.”

Emily Ratajkowski shared why she got herself a divorce ring

Ratajkowski debuted her divorce ring after separating from Sebastian Bear-McClard. She explained that she wanted to shift the negative perceptions of divorce.

“I would like there to be a perspective that allows space for the fact that leaving a relationship is often a remarkable and brave act,” she said, per the New York Times. “I really would like to see single moms — or women starting over for the first time in a terrifying way — find some kind of solace in the idea that they’re not failures for leaving.”

Ratajkowski remodeled her toi-et-moi engagement ring into two separate divorce rings.

Rachel Zoe’s ex-husband also bought her a diamond ring as a ‘push present’

Zoe has received diamond rings for several major life events. After giving birth to her son, Skyler, Berman gifted her a nearly 10-carat diamond ring as a “push present.”

“Rodger wanted to surprise Rachel with something romantic — and huge,” designer Neil Lane told People. “I knew she’s wanted a cushion cut forever. It was their first baby and she’s been working so hard that Rodger wanted to do something very special. Rachel was thrilled and hasn’t taken it off since!”
