Celebrity Arrest Roundup: Reality Stars, Athletes, and Musicians All Ended Up in Cuffs This Week
The celebrities have been feisty this week. Over the course of the last seven days, several stars have found themselves in handcuffs. Everyone from star athletes to musical artists to reality TV stars has been hauled in by the police for a variety of different crimes. Sure, there are always stars who find themselves afoul of the law, but there seemed to be more celebrity arrests than ever in recent days. We’ve compiled a list of stars who are now facing legal issues.
Reality TV stars have found themselves in trouble with the law
The reality TV stars have been having nothing but trouble the last week or so. Love After Lockup stars Latisha Collier and her husband, Keith Michael Collier, were arrested in Davenport, Iowa, this week. Latisha was charged with drug possession, while her partner was charged with intent to sell. Latisha may be facing additional legal issues thanks to a bookkeeping business that may have been a scam.
Project Runway contestant Aaron Michael was also brought in by police this week. The fashion designer was picked up by West Virginia police on an out-of-town warrant, although it’s unclear for what reason. There are no further details on his arrest or his charges.
A bit more is known about a sickening incident involving another reality TV star. Britton Shackelford of Wicked Tuna fame was arrested on animal cruelty charges this week, too. The arrest stemmed from an incident in which Shackelford allegedly shot and killed a dog. According to TMZ, he is also facing a misdemeanor weapons charge, but was released on $7,000 bond. The animal cruelty charge is a felony.
Akon was also arrested
The reality TV stars aren’t the only celebrities to have been arrested this week. Akon has also found himself in a touch of trouble. The musician, best known for his early 2000s hits such as “Smack That” and “Blame It on Me,” was arrested in Georgia a few days ago on an outstanding bench warrant. According to TMZ, the R&B artist was arrested for failing to appear in court on charges related to traffic violations and a suspended license.
Apparently, Akon encountered trouble with his license in 2023 and chose not to address the issues. Police only discovered the active warrant while assisting the music artist with an issue related to his vehicle. An “illegal vape” was also found in his possession at the time of the arrest, although it doesn’t appear that additional charges were filed regarding that. While not explicitly stated, the vape may have been a cannabis vape. Marijuana remains illegal for recreational use in Georgia, but has been decriminalized.
These sports stars have some pretty serious legal issues, too
The sports world has been rocked in recent weeks by several betting scandals. The MLB has been dealing with news that two Cleveland Guardians pitchers were involved in a betting scheme. They have both been arrested. Luis Ortiz was arrested earlier in the week on charges of wire fraud conspiracy, honest services wire fraud conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy, and other offenses. He was released on $500,000 bond as he awaits further court dates.
Emmanuel Clase was arrested at JFK International Airport on November 13, according to CBS News. Clase had been out of the country when the indictment was handed down and didn’t appear to be in a big rush to return to the United States. Like Ortiz, Clase is charged with wire fraud, money laundering, and various other felonies. He is on paid leave while the court proceedings unfold.
The NBA faced similar fraud issues last month, but it also has additional problems with its former players to address. Former NBA star Patrick Beverly has been arrested. Beverly, who was just in the news over a podcast episode that suggested Megan Thee Stallion is to blame for Klay Thompson’s subpar gameplay this season, was arrested for assault on November 14. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Department took Beverly into custody after receiving distress calls. According to reports, Baverly impeded the breathing of a family member or member of his household. He was released on bond. The victim’s identity has not been released.
