Celebrity Chefs React to Diddy Putting Applesauce on His Cheeseburgers
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is currently on trial for sex trafficking and racketeering. The former music mogul stands accused of some truly horrific crimes. The serious nature of his alleged crimes means testimony from witnesses and victims has been heavy and heartbreaking. There was a moment of levity last week when two of his assistants took the stand. They each revealed that Diddy had been committing a crime against food for years. The rapper puts applesauce on his cheeseburgers; the jury was dismayed, and now chefs have weighed in.

Last week, George Kaplan and David James, two of Diddy’s former assistants, took the stand. Both Kaplan and James outlined some truly horrible moments with the music mogul. They also revealed his strange culinary preferences.
George Kaplan, a former assistant, recounted an incident from 2008 when Combs had a craving for cheeseburgers from a Los Angeles diner shortly before a confrontation with Suge Knight. According to Business Insider, Kaplan confirmed, under cross-examination, that Combs enjoyed applesauce on his cheeseburgers. He said, “Mr. Combs loves applesauce. He eats it on the side or on top of a lot of things.”
David James also discussed Diddy’s dietary demands. He also acknowledged Combs’ fondness for applesauce, noting that it was stocked regularly. Still, James insisted he didn’t know Diddy used it as a condiment on cheeseburgers.
Famous chefs weigh in on Diddy’s desire to put applesauce on a cheeseburger
Over the years, the humble cheeseburger has been elevated in countless ways. From the addition of a fried egg to slipping patties between glazed donuts, chefs and foodies are open to a lot of alternative burger ideas. Despite that, Diddy’s applesauce toppping is a hard no for most people.
The culinary confession sparked reactions from the food community. Foodies from across the globe admonished the odd culinary preference on social media. Even celebrity chefs are weighing in on the situation. TMZ caught up with Andrew Zimmern and asked about Diddy’s diabolical dietary quirk. Zimmern, best known for hosting Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, expressed his disapproval. He labeled the combination a “travesty.” He also noted that the rest of Diddy’s alleged behavior was deplorable.
TMZ also ran into restaurateur Jeremy Fall and asked about the combination. Fall, who is known for his innovative fusion dishes, called the combo “disgusting.” Diddy likely hasn’t had a cheeseburger since his September 2024 arrest. Applesauce is probably difficult to come by, too.
