The Celebrity Who ‘Wasn’t Impressed’ With Timothée Chalamet’s Speech About Kylie Jenner

At the 2026 Critics’ Choice Awards, Timothée Chalamet won the award for Best Actor in a Film for his role in Marty Supreme.

Chalamet then took the stage for his acceptance speech and gushed about the support he gets from his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner. But an expert noticed that one star in the audience didn’t look happy and “wasn’t impressed” when Chalamet thanked Jenner.

Darren Stanton is a body language and behavioral expert with a degree in psychology. Speaking on behalf of Covers, Stanton told Showbiz Cheat Sheet that during his speech, Chalamet demonstrated that his relationship with Jenner “has gone from strength to strength.” He continued, “They’ve always shown PDA in their rare outings together, and it’s never been an issue. But what’s happened now is that they seem fully settled within the relationship. The honeymoon period seems to be over, which isn’t in a negative sense. But they now seem completely comfortable and solid together, which would explain why Timothée made reference to Kylie in his speech. He wanted everyone to know how serious the relationship has become.”

Stanton explained, “Timothée’s hands were behind his back as he paid tribute to Kylie, which can be seen as an authoritative gesture. When someone exposes the front of their body, it’s a sign that they’re feeling confident and powerful. Here, Timothée was speaking from the heart and felt confident in what he was saying. Kylie was definitely taken aback during the declaration. She put her hand to her chin, which is a hand-to-mouth gesture. In certain contexts, this could be seen as a self-reassurance gesture. But here it was more coming from emotion and the fact that Kylie felt quite overwhelmed.

“Her eyes welled up, and her emotions seemed strong. Her eye contact was transfixed on him, which showed her depth of rapport and connection. Even though they were in a room full of people, that connection and bubble between the two of them was still existing. It shows the depth of their relationship. It’s quite clear that they love each other deeply.”

Stanton also noticed that one celebrity in particular wasn’t too fond of Chamalet’s speech about his girlfriend.

According to Stanton, “Michael B. Jordan didn’t look too impressed during Timothée’s speech. There was a moment when the camera panned to him; it almost looked like he was flashing contempt. When you look at his left cheek, it’s something you call a bilateral smile, which is linked to smugness and contempt. In this context, it just seems that Michael wanted Timothée to get on with it.

“I get the impression that he thought he was overdoing it slightly. There might be some elements of jealousy, given Michael’s slightly sarcastic expression. But from what’s clear, it seems that something did bother him during Timothée’s speech.”
