Charli XCX and George Daniel married at a registry office in London

On Saturday, July 19, Charli and Daniel invited 20 of their friends and family members to attend their wedding at the Hackney Town Hall. Afterwards, they celebrated at an Italian restaurant and local bar.

“Charli and George wanted the ceremony to feel special and personal, but not over-the-top,” an insider told People, adding, “They have been planning this for months and were so excited to finally say ‘I do’ even if it was low-key. They danced all night. They have such playful energy as a couple. It was the most fun celebration.”

The couple went public with their relationship in 2022.

Charli XCX’s wedding reflects a growing trend in Gen-Z brides

Charli’s small, laidback ceremony reflects a growing trend in weddings. Over the past month, searches for weddings in local registry offices have shot up by 5000%, hinting that many couples want a similar event. Per Aura Print, 29% of couples are now opting for small wedding ceremonies.

“Charli XCX married George Daniel over the weekend in a low-key town hall ceremony, heavily mimicking the trends we’re currently seeing among Gen Z couples when it comes to wedding planning,” said Aura Print’s wedding specialists. “They’re rewriting the modern wedding traditions, pushing for more private and intimate celebrations – they want a ‘quiet wedding.’”

People already view Charli as the ultimate cool girl, and her trendy wedding is further proof of this.

“With a 5000% surge in city hall registry interest, it’s clear the trend towards ‘registrycore’ is on its way to the surface,” the specialists continued. “Often styled with modern and minimalist aesthetic, similar to Charli XCX’s, it’s a way for them to celebrate meaningfully while embracing effortless chic that feels personal.”

It doesn’t hurt that weddings in registry offices cost thousands of dollars less than a more traditional ceremony.

Charli XCX will have another wedding later

While Charli did have a quiet wedding at first, she will throw a larger ceremony later on. The couple reportedly plans to celebrate in Sicily later on.

“[T]he party’s just getting started,” the source told People. “They have a larger celebration planned for Sicily. They’ve always dreamed of a big party in Italy. Somewhere beautiful and private, where all their friends can let loose. It will be star-studded. This was always the plan. London was the official wedding, but a big event is happening too and it will be epic.”

While they also want the second party to be secluded, the couple hopes their friends and family will let loose in an all-night affair.
