A timeline of Julie and Todd Chrisley’s legal drama
Todd and Julie Chrisley are back in Nashville and ready to put their legal issues behind them. While the duo was released years earlier than expected, their legal troubles have been a drawn-out drama. The trouble all began in August 2019 when a grand jury indicted Todd, a real estate developer, and his wife, Julie, on various counts of fraud. In October 2019, they had a small victory when they worked directly with the Georgia Department of Revenue to reach a settlement. The settlement cleared them of state tax evasion charges.
In May 2022, they appeared in court to address a range of other charges. The entire case hinged on prosecutors proving that the Chrisleys submitted false documents to banks and the IRS to obtain $30 million in fraudulent loans and avoid paying taxes. The prosecution succeeded. They were found guilty in June 2022. Months later, a judge sentenced them to prison. Todd Chrisley was set to serve 12 years behind bars, while Julie was ordered to spend seven years in a federal lockup.
Todd reported to a Federal Prison Camp in Pensacola, Florida. Julie reported to FMC Lexington in Kentucky in January 2023, around two months after sentencing. The couple’s reality TV show was canceled after their 2022 conviction. Still, a handful of episodes aired following their imprisonment. They were pardoned by President Donald Trump in May 2025, immediately ending their time behind bars.
A new reality TV series is in development. The series will air on Lifetime, but the still-untitled project does not yet have a release date.
