Chelsea Houska has grown up on TV. Teen Mom fans watched her stumble through a teenage pregnancy and a troubled relationship with the father of her eldest child. They watched her find her footing, fall in love, marry, and welcome more children. Now, years after she left Teen Mom 2 behind, she’s keeping fans in the loop on social media and on HGTV. Still, Houska insists she is not outgoing and doesn’t find filming easy. She revealed that she actually prefers to stay at home in South Dakota. She explained her life and her intense desire for privacy during a recent interview.

Chelsea Houska insists filming isn’t easy for her

Chelsea Houska tries to keep things low-key, five years after leaving Teen Mom behind. Still, her career finds her in the public eye. She recently sat down for an interview with the Local Moms Network and opened up about just how difficult it can be at times.  The mother of four happily discussed misconceptions about her and her life on TV.

Houska revealed that many people assume filming is easy for her because they incorrectly believe she’s “outgoing.” Houska insists that the opposite is true. She is not actually outgoing, and she finds filming nerve-racking. The disconnect between her career and her personality is largely the reason she prefers to stay at home in South Dakota with her husband, Cole DeBoer, and her kids. She said that growing up on TV has made her value privacy, and she knows that she can find it in her rural home, in the “middle of nowhere.”

She prefers to stay in South Dakota for a reason

These days, most of Chelsea Houska’s family and professional life are centered in South Dakota, and that’s the way she prefers it. Houska insists that she’s not much of a traveler and doesn’t have an overwhelming desire to leave South Dakota, where she was raised, regardless of how much money she makes. Houska revealed that leaving her “bubble” is actually “really scary” for her.

Even when she’s home, she insists she prefers to lie low with her closest friends and family. She said she just “loves” her little “space.” Her desire for privacy is actually what led her to leave Teen Mom 2 behind. Houska told Local Mom Network that she really enjoys the ability to keep some of her life private, especially after the whirlwind of having her early adult years filmed. It’s the reason she was receptive to HGTV, as the focus of her show wasn’t solely on her family life.

Houska left MTV in 2020. Two years later, she announced she would be appearing on TV again, but this time on HGTV. The former Teen Mom 2 cast member has been wildly successful, and the move appears to have worked well for her. It even inspired other cast members to follow suit. Kailyn Lowry revealed that Houska’s example ultimately helped her decide to leave Teen Mom 2 as well.
