Chris Noth was once best known for playing the heartthrob Mr. Big on Sex and the City; In 2021, though, he was accused of sexual assault. While nothing legally came of the accusations, they upended his career. They also forced HBO Max to completely reimagine how season 1 of And Just Like That… would play out. While it didn’t really alter Noth’s involvement in the show (the decision to kill off his character happened many months earlier), it did alter his relationship with his co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis. Noth recently opened up about how their reaction to the allegations wounded him.

Chris Noth calls his co-stars’ statement ‘more Hollywood than Hollywood’

Chris Noth’s life and career took an unexpected turn in 2021 when multiple women stepped forward to accuse him of sexual assault. While nothing legally came of those allegations so far, it did alter his career trajectory and led to what Noth called “hurtful” behavior by co-stars whom he once considered friends. Years since the incident, Noth is reflecting on what transpired.

During a recent appearance on Really Famous With Kara Mayer Robinson, Noth addressed the controversy he created weeks ago when he replied to a comment slamming his former on-screen love, Sarah Jessica Parker. While Noth said the comment was “a bit sarcastic,” he also admitted he and Parker were no longer really friends. He revealed that he was hurt that Parker, along with Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, issued a statement about the allegation against him without ever speaking directly to him or asking for “his side” of the story. Noth called their actions “more Hollywood than Hollywood,” before insisting he would have never done the same to them.

Sarah Jessica Parker has spoken a bit about the situation in the past. She admitted that she hadn’t spoken to Noth since the allegations became public. The statement that Noth referenced was a joint statement by the three stars of the reboot. In their statement, they said they were deeply saddened to learn of the allegations. They went on to note that they stood with the alleged victims. No further conversation about the allegations was had, and Noth’s character did not appear in the series again.

Was Mr. Big killed off because of the sexual assault allegations against Chris Noth?

While the allegations did alter how Mr. Big was discussed moving forward, they did not directly impact his character’s storyline.

The decision to kill off Mr. Big had been made months earlier. His death was actually part of the planned storyline for Sex and the City 3, a movie that never got off the ground. Noth has previously stated that the character’s death and how it would be handled were the only reasons he agreed to return. The sexual assault allegations against Chris Noth had no bearing on the death. Still, they likely impacted how the writing team addressed the character in subsequent seasons. Fans felt the lack of mentions in seasons 2 and 3 was unrealistic and disingenuous. Most importantly, completely ignoring him felt totally out of character for Carrie Bradshaw.

And Just Like That… was canceled after three seasons in 2025 after much criticism. Some stars don’t think it’s the end of the franchise, though.
