Coi Leray Reveals What Caused Her Fistfight With Latto’s Sister and That She Started Speaking to Her Father, Benzino, Again
Coi Leray has a new album out and a new outlook on some things in her life, including her relationship with her father, Benzino.
You may recall that the “Twinnem” rapper and her father have been estranged for some time, but that changed recently.
The public first learned about the drama between Leray and Benzino in her 2021 song “No More Parties.” The father and daughter then spoke about their estrangement in separate interviews. Leray claimed that Benzino was “envious” of her success, and in 2024, she stated, “I want everybody to know I want nothing to do with anything my father has going on. I haven’t spoken to him … I don’t condone or respect any of them interviews he got going on.
“I don’t respect his decisions and I really want nothing to do with him please dont [sic] even think of me when you see him. Sharing the same DNA and blood DOESN’T make us FAMILY. Loyalty, boundaries, respect, teaching, guidance, love, patience, encouragement MAKES US FAMILY.”
Then in 2025, during one interview with Carlos King, Benzino addressed some of his daughter’s comments and admitted, “I didn’t know how to handle this on the internet. I didn’t see this coming, so I didn’t know how to handle that. There was no manual I could look in or ask ChatGPT. My feelings were hurt. I never knew she felt that way about me. Because I know for a fact that anything that I did was out of love. Anything I didn’t do right was me not knowing.”
He added that he knew Leray had a daughter whom he never met, saying, “She just had a baby. I haven’t seen her. I get the pictures when they come out on The Shade Room just like everybody else. I wish it would stop and go back to normal again.”
Well, Benzino’s wishes have been granted because he and Leray have a relationship again.
In September 2026, the “Nothing Into Something” artist appeared on The Jason Lee Show and revealed that the two are communicating regularly again, and Benzino frequently calls and FaceTimes to talk and check in on his granddaughter, Miyoco.
“Me and my dad are really cool now. Like I love him so much,” Leray shared. “I’m so glad that now even at this age and at this time that we are reconnecting and building because it’s the perfect time. I wouldn’t be able to have a lot of conversations that I’m having now with him in the past.”
During that same interview, Leray also spoke about her past beef with fellow rapper Latto after she called her out in a song in 2023. Leray explained that things got physical with Latto’s sister amid the feud.
“I don’t want to be f**ked with,” Leray told Lee. “I don’t want nobody to say my name. Don’t use my name for clickbait, and for clout and to create rap beef that I’m not in. One thing led to another. Me and [Latto’s sister] Brooklyn fought behind the scenes. It was a whole thing. A whole fistfight. I done refractured my knee and everything … She was defending her sister. Me, I was defending myself.”
Leray added that she and Latto have since squashed their beef and she wouldn’t mind collaborating with the “Big Energy” hitmaker in the future.
