More than a week ago, the Los Angeles Police Department found a body in the trunk of a Tesla that was impounded from the Hollywood Hills. The public was shocked to learn the vehicle was registered to a 20-year-old R&B artist who got his big break on TikTok, D4vd. The artist, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, was said to be cooperating fully with the investigation. Still, D4vd didn’t stop his planned tour. Since the body’s discovery, D4vd has performed in more than one city. He performed a show in Minneapolis on the night of the discovery. Something has changed, though. The identification of the victim has altered his plans. On the heels of the LAPD announcing the victim’s identity, D4vd canceled a planned show in Seattle. It looks like his other tour dates may be in jeopardy. This is the latest on what is happening.

D4vd canceled a planned concert the day police identified the victim in his trunk

D4vd was in the midst of the national leg of his tour when the Los Angeles Police Department made a gruesome discovery in the trunk of his Tesla. On September 9, reports revealed that police found a dismembered and decomposing body inside the vehicle, which had been towed from the Hollywood Hills a few days earlier. Police were called to the impound lot when staff noticed a strong odor emanating from the vehicle.  D4vd was already in Minneapolis in advance of a planned concert on the day the body was found.

Police have said the music artist is cooperating, but he hasn’t slowed down his performance since the investigation was launched, until now. While he played a show in Oregon and Seattle in recent days, he promptly canceled his second planned Seattle tour date after the LAPD identified the victim in his trunk as 15-year-old Celeste Rivas, a California native who has been missing since 2024. It is unclear where David Anthony Burke is at this time. He has shut down comments on his social media. Still, his profiles remain active at this time.

Who is Celeste Rivas, and does she have any ties to D4vd?

While police have not named a suspect in the case yet, the identification of the victim gives them more to work with. The fact that Rivas’ missing person report was active is also a helpful step in the right direction. According to ABC Eyewitness News, Rivas had run away prior to May 2024, but always returned relatively quickly. When she didn’t return home in May, her family filed a missing persons report. She was only 13 at the time of her disappearance. It is unclear what prompted her to attempt to run away multiple times.

While she appears to have been dead for some time when LAPD officers discovered the body, it is unclear what her exact death date might be. The teenager’s missing poster claims she weighed 120 pounds and was 5’3 at the time of her disappearance. She was just 71lbs when police weighed her remains. She was still 5’3.

D4vd has not been named a person of interest at this time. Still, TMZ has noted that the teen and D4vd had some eerie connections. They both had a similar tattoo on their fingers, and the victim’s mother claims her teen daughter had a boyfriend named David. She did not name Burke as the boyfriend, though. The outlet spoke with the victim’s mother.

D4vd and his team have not issued a public statement. It is unclear if the rest of his tour dates, including one that would bring him back to Los Angeles, have been canceled. There is no word on the fate of the  International leg of his tour, which was set to begin in October, either.

This story is developing rapidly. The death is being investigated as a homicide.
