Dame Dash Said He Wanted to ‘Squash’ His Beef With Jay-Z Before Callout at Roots Picnic
Dame Dash and Jay-Z have feuded for years. While they were once close partners, their relationship fell apart over disagreements over the running of Roc-A-Fella Records. Several years ago, Dash said he was ready to put the bad feelings aside. Jay-Z’s recent freestyle seemed to hint that there is still bad blood between them.
Dame Dash said he wanted to put aside his beef with Jay-Z
When Jay-Z was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, he thanked Dash for the role he played in his career.
“Shout out to Dame,” he said. “I know we don’t see eye to eye, but I can never erase your accomplishments. And I appreciate you and I thank you for that.”
Dash publicly discussed how much the words meant to him.
“It was beautiful,” he told Page Six. “I’m glad he said it for the culture. We need to squash everything. So hopefully if that was an extended [olive branch], I’ll spin one back.”
He said that he wanted to hash things out properly with Jay-Z.
“I have no beef with [him] if [he has] no beef with me,” he said. “Let’s get the lawyers out of it then. Let’s talk like men, but I definitely appreciate it.”
He said that he thought it would be good for people to see them set their feud aside.
“We should not be divided,” he said. “We have accomplished too much to be beefing … There ain’t no way I’m never gonna [not] consider [him] my brother — it’s just that we don’t see eye to eye.”
He also appreciated having his name connected to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame because of Jay-Z.
“That means I’m in the Hall of Fame,” he said. “Whether we cool or not, him getting in the Hall of Fame is major. So congratulations to us, congratulations to him and thank you [to him] for keep working so hard to where he got to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Anything he can do to make me great, so thank you for even continuing to strive. He keeps my name alive.”
Jay-Z called out Dame Dash at Roots Picnic
At Roots Picnic in Philadelphia, Jay-Z got onstage as a headliner. During a freestyle, he took shots at a number of people, including Drake, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, and Dash.
“That chatty patty is down on his luck again,” he said, which appears to be a reference to Dash talking about his disdain for him on podcasts.
He appeared to reference him again when he said, “N****s teeth is tumbling out their mouth, and somehow I’m the one who done it.” Dash’s teeth fell out during an Instagram Live several years ago.
He responded to the freestyle
Dash responded to Jay-Z’s freestyle with an Instagram post. He shared an image of Jay-Z with Disney’s character Goofy as his head. He simply shared a crying emoji in the caption and tagged Jay-Z.
