After years of speculation, Brooklyn Beckham confirmed the feud with his parents in an explosive statement that caught everyone off guard.

In January, David and Victoria Beckham‘s eldest son took to social media and didn’t hold back when he shared what life has been like for him growing up in the famous family.

“I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed,” Brooklyn wrote on his Instagram Stories.

He continued, “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events, and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into. Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.”

Brooklyn also claimed that on his wedding day, his mother “hijacked” his first dance with his bride, writing, “My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song. In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone.”

Brooklyn called out his father as well saying David would only agree to see him on his 50th birthday with a hundred guests watching and cameras rolling.

Now, with the world looking at the family through a different lens and many have chosen a side, David and Victoria did what they needed to do to mark Brooklyn’s 27th birthday on March 4.

The former soccer star took to Instagram Stories and wrote to his son, “Happy Birthday Bust,” referring to his nickname for Brooklyn.

David did not tag his son in the post, which isn’t too surprising since Brooklyn has blocked his family on Instagram and reportedly requested that his mom and dad not make statements about him on social media and only contact him through his lawyer.

Victoria also shared a message to Brooklyn as well that read, “Happy birthday Brooklyn. We love you so much,” with a photo of her, David, and Brooklyn in a pool. The fashion designer also posted a second photo in which she is holding Brooklyn as a baby and captioned it, “Happy 27th birthday Brooklyn, I love you so much.”

As odd as their messages may look to some, given what the public knows about their ongoing rift, David and Victoria had no choice but to acknowledge their son’s birthday because they certainly would have faced more backlash if they hadn’t. The criticism they are facing now is that the posts “look performative,” but that’s better than coming off as heartless and ignoring Brooklyn’s birthday.
