Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has officially been transferred from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn to FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey. While Diddy’s bid to walk free after being convicted on two Mann Act violations ultimately failed, his transfer does put him in a much better situation than he was previously in. At the very least, the disgraced music mogul gets to enjoy a bit of fresh air. He was spotted in the yard at the facility for the first time. In a single released photo, he looks older and grayer than he had before his arrest in September 2024.

Sean Diddy Combs spotted at FCI Fort Dix

It didn’t take long for Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs to be spotted on the grounds of FCI Fort Dix, the federal prison where he’ll serve out his 50-month sentence. The sighting, first reported by TMZ, occurred on October 31. That was just one day after Combs was transferred from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn to the low-security federal lockup in New Jersey.

The sighting is a pretty big deal. It is the first actual glimpse of Diddy that the public has gotten since he was arrested by federal agents in September 2024. The prison where he was held during his trial is notoriously rigid. While there are open-air spaces, none are visible to the public. Diddy appeared in the grainy photos looking older and far greyer than before his detention started. His face was largely obscured by a hood to shield him from the high winds the area experienced in recent days.

Is the facility better than where Diddy was previously held?

Diddy’s move to Fort Dix is what his legal team wanted if they couldn’t get him sent home. They requested the federal institution during the rapper’s sentencing journey, which ended with a 50-month prison term earlier this month. While his team, in theory, could have requested any federal prison, they opted for Fort Dix. During sentencing, they cited the facility’s proximity to New York and its drug rehabilitation program as the reason for their choice. Is the federal lockup more comfortable than where Diddy was residing prior to his sentencing, though?

Objectively, yes. MDC Brooklyn has a reputation for violence and subpar living conditions. A former inmate told Los Angeles Magazine that the facility is a warzone that pits inmates against each other in a highly rigid and stressful environment. The facility has been cited for unsanitary conditions and electrical issues in the past as well. FCI Fort Dix, although not a walk in the park, is known for its low-security status. It also provides a more relaxed schedule and rehabilitation programs.

When can the music mogul expect to go home?

Diddy’s prison sentence at FCI Fort Dix has just begun, but the father of seven already has a release date to look forward to. In early October, Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Diddy to 50 months behind bars. Subramanian noted that the seriousness of Diddy’s crimes and the pain he caused to others weighed heavily into his decision.

While Diddy was sentenced to 50 months, he had already served a portion of that time while awaiting trial. Because of his time served, he has an estimated release date of May 8, 2028. May 2028 is just 30 months away. While at FCI Fort Dix, Diddy is expected to take part in a residential drug program. He likely will spend as much time outside as possible after his lengthy detention at the Metropolitan Detention Center, too.
