Do You Know How Many Times Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Prison Release Date Has Been Changed?
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been hoping to get released from prison early since before he set foot inside FCI Fort Dix. He’s spent several holidays and a couple of birthdays behind bars at this point. The disgraced rap superstar is sure to spend a few more years in prison, but we don’t really know exactly when he’ll walk out. While the disgraced mogul is hoping to head home soon, his release date keeps changing. A change to his planned release was made just this month.
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was sentenced to 50 months behind bars
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs will remain behind bars at Fort Dix for a few more years. The record producer and rapper was sentenced to 50 months in prison in October 2025 for two violations of the Mann Act. By that point, the music A-lister spent more than a year behind bars awaiting trial. He had hoped to walk out with just time served. It wasn’t a waste, though. That time was factored into his original release date.
By the time Diddy was transferred from a federal detention center in New York City to his long-term assignment in Fort Dix, he had served 14 months of his 50-month sentence. Upon his arrival, he was given a projected release date of May 8, 2028. The initial release date was based on good-time credits, the time he had already served, and the assumption that he would serve about 80% of his sentence. Prison sentences, however, are subject to change, and Diddy’s did.
He ran into a bit of trouble early on
While Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has hoped his release date would come sooner rather than later, he wasn’t doing a lot to ensure that happened early on in his term. Just weeks after arriving at the federal facility in New Jersey, Diddy was reportedly caught breaking the rules.
Within days of arriving at Fort Dix, he engaged in a three-way phone call that bypassed the prison’s monitoring protocol. While he argued the call was for his defense, he was punished. Several media outlets also reported that Diddy was caught drinking banned alcohol, though the prison has never confirmed that.
The infractions led to punishments for the disgraced media mogul, including the loss of phone privileges and limited commissary access. According to CBS News, the violations also pushed back his release date to June 4, 2028.
Diddy’s release date has been moved up significantly
Despite early hiccups, it looks like Diddy has learned his lesson and has been behaving himself behind the walls of Fort Dix in recent months. At the very least, he’s done enough to get his release date moved up. He is set to be released even earlier than originally intended.
According to the Bureau of Prisons, Diddy is now set to walk free on April 25, 2028, a couple of weeks earlier than his initial release date. Several sources indicate that the change to his release date is thanks to his participation in jail programs. Combs’ legal team argued for this placement at Fort Dix because of the facility’s substance abuse programs. From the sounds of it, Diddy has been taking advantage of those.
