Dolly Parton Revealed the Food That ‘Hurt’ to Give Up When She Dieted
Dolly Parton has spoken often about dieting over the years, and expressed her difficulty giving up certain foods. The singer, who says she loves to cook, often ends diets because of a certain food. She spoke about the handful of foods that were the most difficult for her to give up when she dieted.
Dolly Parton said she hated giving up certain foods when she dieted
Parton has dieted over the years, something she discusses openly. While she said she did not spend all her time dedicated to strict diets, she did go on them from time to time. When she was on them, she craved one food in particular.
“Potatoes,” she told Playgirl in 1981, per the book Dolly on Dolly. “I’m a starch freak.”
She craved savory foods, not sweets. Even if she did feel like a dessert, she often didn’t have enough room to eat it.
“I’m not a sweet eater,” she said. “Usually I eat so much I don’t have room for dessert.”
Unfortunately, she said she rarely craved nutrient-rich foods.
“I’m a junk food person, too,” she said. “I like pizza, potato chips, Fritos.”
Dolly Parton became famous for a food she served castmates
Parton has said that she loves to cook; she has even released cookbooks. She said that when she starred in movies, she brought some of her Southern favorites to the cast and crew.
“I cook a lot when I’m on my movie sets,” she told Today. “So I guess it would be a long list of famous people [I’ve cooked for], because whoever the stars and co-stars are. I have this huge big pot, and I make chicken and dumplings. I’m famous for it, so everybody wants me to make that or a peanut butter fudge that I love and take on set with me.”
She said her cooking makes her popular on set.
“Everybody asks, ‘When are you going to do the dumplings?’ I always announce it a couple of days before so they all look forward to it,” she said. “So, I’ve had my dumplings eaten by a lot of famous people.”
Anyone who loves the recipe won’t be able to make it themselves. Parton said she never gives out the recipe.
She has a diet named after her
Parton has tried a number of diets over the years. She hasn’t liked all that many of them.
“I tried every diet in the book,” she said, per Vanity Fair. “I tried some that weren’t in the book. I tried eating the book. It tasted better than most of the diets.”
She even has a diet attributed to her, the Dolly Parton diet. While she has dieted over the years, she said she has never followed this one. The plan has people eat homemade cabbage soup for every meal for a week. Some versions of the plan allow people to add two additional foods.
“It had nothing to do with me,” she explained. “But I thought I might as well see if I can lose weight on my own diet.”
