Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds starred in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas together. While Parton said the shoot was miserable for her, she liked Reynolds. She joked that their connection was sweeter than a love affair, and many people wondered if they were romantically involved. Parton denied this, but she joked that she felt right at home in a scene in which she gave him underwear.

While many people wondered if Parton and Reynolds were romantically involved, she had been married to her husband, Carl Dean, for years. Parton said Dean’s personality was a perfect fit for her. She also liked the way he looked.

“Built the way I am, I’ve always been fascinated with tall, skinny men; no big muscles, no hair on their chest,” she said, per the book Dolly on Dolly. “Carl has the smoothest skin and not an ounce of fat on his body.”

She said that early in her marriage, she kept buying Dean undergarments that she thought would flatter him. He never wanted to wear them, much to her disappointment.

“When we first got married, I always tried to get him into those sexy little see-through, mesh underpants. But he wouldn’t wear them,” she said. “Finally, my feelings got hurt, so he put ’em on.”

She said this reminded her of a scene in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. She joked that her acting was good in this scene because it felt so familiar to her.

“By pure coincidence, there’s a scene in Whorehouse like that,” she said. “Burt wears boxer shorts, and I go buy him sexy briefs, and he don’t want to wear em. You can see why I was really good in that scene.”

Parton said her husband also bought her undergarments.
