Miley Cyrus threw a 20th anniversary celebration for Hannah Montana with a little help from Dolly Parton. Cyrus has known Parton for years and considers herself her “fairy godmother.” Cyrus said she has learned a lot about navigating the music industry from Parton. She also learned a manifestation trick that helped her celebrate the 20th anniversary of her Disney show.

Dolly Parton taught Miley Cyrus a manifestation trick

On the 10th anniversary of Hannah Montana, Cyrus said her blonde counterpart was “chopped up into little tiny pieces and buried in my backyard.” Therefore, it came as a surprise to some when she started teasing plans for a 20th anniversary special. Disney executives said Cyrus was the one pushing for the special.

“She willed it into existence,” Disney exec Charlie  Andrews told Variety. “The thing she was adamant about is that this is for the fans. That has gone into literally every decision she has made.”

Cyrus admitted she started publicly discussing the special before Disney had any real plans for one. This was a manifestation trick she learned from Parton.

“I learned this terrible habit — but I actually think it was good advice — from Dolly,” she said. “She told me that if you want something to happen, promote it before it exists. Then no one can say no. So I just started promoting a Hannah Montana 20th-anniversary special that literally did not exist.”

The hour-long Hannah Montana anniversary special will air on Disney+ on March 24.

Miley Cyrus has known Dolly Parton for much of her life

Parton and Billy Ray Cyrus toured together, and she became close with the Cyrus family. When Cyrus was born in 1992, Billy Ray asked Parton to serve as her godmother.

“I’m her honorary godmother. I’ve known her since she was a baby,” Parton told ABC News. “Her father’s a friend of mine, and when she was born, he said, ‘You just have to be her godmother,’ and I said, ‘I accept.’ We never did do a big ceremony, but I’m so proud of her, love her and she’s just like one of my own.”

Cyrus said she’s learned a great deal from Parton, and Parton said she’s turned to her goddaughter for questions on how to stay relevant.

The ‘Jolene’ singer appeared in episodes of ‘Hannah Montana’

Parton watched Cyrus on Hannah Montana from the beginning. She said Cyrus’ talent blew her away.

“When Hannah Montana came on the air, and little Miley Cyrus, my little goddaughter, was the star of it, I was so proud of her,” Parton told Vanity Fair. “I thought she was sensational. I thought, ‘What a great little comedienne she is. And what a great little actress.’ And of course, she’s a great singer. She was so perfect in that spot.”

Parton even appeared on several episodes of the show. She joked that it brought a whole new demographic of fans.

“I’m famous now ’cause I’m Hannah Montana’s Aunt Dolly,” she said on her website. “Little kids just see me in the street and just point — ‘Aunt Dolly!’ or ‘Hi, Aunt Dolly!’ — and it’s just been so cute.”
