Drake’s $1 Million Super Bowl Loss Adds to His Legendary Betting Curse
The Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, an ending that shouldn’t have come as a surprise if you believe in Drake’s betting curse. The rapper placed a $1 million bet on the Patriots, meaning that his wallet was significantly lighter when the game ended. This is far from the first time Drake has lost money on a game. His losses over the years have led some to believe he is cursed.
Drake lost $1 million after betting on the New England Patriots
Ahead of the Super Bowl, Drake shared a photo to his Instagram that revealed he’d placed a $1 million bet on the New England Patriots. If the team won, he would have received $2,950,000.
“Bet against me if you dare,” he wrote.
Of course, he will never see that prize money. The Seahawks maintained a lead for the entirety of the low-drama game; the Patriots didn’t manage to score until the fourth quarter.
“We believe in each other, we love each other, and now we’re world champions,” Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said after the game.
Drake’s betting history is full of losses
In the comments of Drake’s Instagram post, a number of people joked that the bet had already decided the outcome of the game.
“Man oh man Seahawks winning,” wrote one commenter.
“I feel safer about my Seahawks bet now,” added another person.
These commenters were referencing what has become known as the Drake Curse. According to the site TheDrakeCurse.com, which tracks the rapper’s betting history, he has made 12 Super Bowl bets since 2022. He has lost eight of these bets and won four. He has lost over $1.6 million on the Super Bowl, with last night’s loss being the biggest.
This season, he also lost $250.28K when he bet on the Baltimore Ravens to beat the Buffalo Bills in a regular-season game.
Still, Drake has not been entirely unlucky. In 2024, he won $2,346,000 when he bet on the Kansas City Chiefs to beat the San Francisco 49ers.
What celebrities supported the Seattle Seahawks?
Mark Wahlberg, a longtime Patriots fan, commented “SMART MAN” on Drake’s Instagram post. He, and stars like Jon Bon Jovi, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck were hoping for a Patriots win at the Super Bowl.
There were likely a number of celebrities who hoped to see Drake lose his bet, though. Chris Pratt and his son introduced the Seahawks ahead of the Super Bowl. Pratt grew up outside of Seattle and is a lifelong fan of the Seahawks.
Other stars who support the winning team include Joel McHale, Will Ferrell, Rainn Wilson, Dave Matthews, Chrissy Teigen, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
