Chavez’s manslaughter charge is not the first time the 33-year-old had a run-in with the law. According to several sources, he was driving on a suspended license at the time of the crash. Chavez’s license was reportedly suspended after he failed to comply with restrictions stemming from prior DUI convictions.

While alcohol did not play a role in the crash that killed Lynch, Chavez had two prior DUI arrests and convictions. Those arrests were from 2014 and 2017.

Laura Lynch’s family has not issued a statement regarding the sentencing. They have remained tight-lipped throughout the legal process, only discussing Lynch’s death and legacy immediately following the crash. The community continues to mourn privately.
