Ed Sheeran Reacts After Taylor Swift Reveals Reason She Didn’t Tell Him About Her Engagement Before the Rest of the World Found Out
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce nearly broke the internet when they announced their engagement with a joint Instagram post on Aug. 26. The pair shared a carousel of photos that included a close-up of the pop star’s ring. Another pic showed the couple embracing with the caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
Travis’ father later revealed that his son and Swift got engaged about two weeks before they publicly shared the news.
“Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago,” Ed Kelce told News 5 in Cleveland. “He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy. But he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event. And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”
It’s not surprising that the “Opalite” singer and NFL star kept their news between family and friends before announcing it to the world. What is surprising is that one of Swift’s closest pals, Ed Sheeran, learned about it when the rest of us did.
Swift explained her reason on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Now, Sheeran has reacted.

When Fallon asked Swift about Sheeran learning she was engaged through Instagram, the singer confirmed this was true.
She then explained why, telling Fallon, “I have a perfect explanation. He doesn’t have a phone! And this is one thing I love about him. It’s very eccentric. Love it. But when I’m going through, saying, ‘Hey, who should we call? Who should we FaceTime?’ I’m going through my texts and being like, ‘Who have I texted within the last, like, month of my life?'”
The host then asked how she ever gets a hold of him, to which Swift responded, “You have to email him, and then if you want to set up a FaceTime, he has to find an iPad. They have to give it to him like he’s a child … This is one of my absolute favorite people on the planet, and when the news came out, I was like ‘Oh my God! We forgot to call Ed. Oh no!'”
The “Shape of You” artist didn’t argue with what Swift said.
Sheeran took to social media after someone gave him a device, writing, “Hello from my allotted iPad time. This is factual.”
Swift also gave Fallon more details about Travis’s proposal and gushed about being engaged to him.
“The fact that this is the person that I get to hang out with every day forever is just like …” She then looked at her ring and said, “And this represents that.”
