Prince William and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) were the first to welcome French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, to the U.K. for their state visit as the royals greeted them at the airport before escorting them to Windsor Castle.

After arriving in Windsor and being formally greeted by King Charles and Queen Camilla, Emmanuel made a comment about the Prince of Wales and was later caught winking at Kate.

Hickling told The Sun that the French president talked with King Charles about William’s height, saying: “He is incredibly tall.” The monarch, who is about 5 foot 10, replied: “He is very tall. He’s 6 foot 1.”

However, according to Hickling, William weighed in to correct the men, informing them: “Actually, I’m 6 foot 3.” Emmanuel, who is around 5 foot 7, then quipped: “Unlike us, we’re short.”

Emmanuel also made headlines during the first state dinner on July 8 when he was spotted winking at William’s wife as they were seated next to each other during the dinner. France’s president was seen clinking glasses and chatting with the Princess of Wales throughout the dinner.
